To do so, one of three things needs to happen:

Norwich lose and Hull City win but overturn a goal difference deficit of 7
West Brom Draw and Hull City win but overturn a goal difference deficit of 11
West Brom lose and Hull City win, goal difference is irrelevant

Nah, I think failing to beat Ipswich put the nail in that coffin.

Though, to be fair, even scraping a draw was a great result.

Hope Hull do make it though, West Brom missing out after spending something like 5 months in 5th would be very funny.

I think Hull and WBA will both win.
Not so sure about Norwich, but I can't see Hull turning round the GD.
Whichever teams do go through I think it will all end in tears in any case.

It's a no from me, but as others have said a great season and something to build upon for you next year (providing you can hold onto your best assets - and I'm not talking about your man boobs there Brian).

Good luck mate, but can't see it.

You wrote them off yourself about 3 weeks ago so to be still in with a chance albeit a thin one is a win. The gamble may still pay off. How much of a gamble we will no doubt know in the coming weeks.

I can't see West Brom losing at home to Preston and even if Norwich lose at Birmingham, I can't see Hull overturning a 7 goal deficit.

I think that’s probably the likely scenario. I can also see a late winner for Plymouth to save themselves against a demoralised Hull on 80 mins after the WBA news has filtered through.

I really don't think making the top 6 is the carrot that it has been in previous seasons, one of the reasons i wasn't too perturbed by our lack of Jan spending on loan signings, as whoever finishes 3rd, plus Southampton in 4th, are so far ahead of the candidates for 5th and 6th, there is a highly unlikely chance of them progressing.

*(I am prepared for this post to be hoofed as soon as Hull waltz to the prem after winning the play off final 6-0)

Oh dunno. Southampton and Leeds have both stuttered in recent weeks and we know from last season what momentum can do

true, but once the dust has settled and they've gathered themselves, they have far too much quality wise for Hull/WBA/Norwich.

And lest we forget, Luton finished 3rd, showing they were better than us throughout the season - and were the team that went up.

A lot is made of "momentum" and the team the sneaks in often does well, i think thats one of them often repeated cliches which if you looked at the stats just isnt true.

Like the "there'ss always one team the drops into the bottom 3" that commentators and experts love to tell us, but hardly ever happens!

But Cov were below us and beat us lest we forget. And as for Luton they were unbeaten in their last 14 and had by far the best momentum going into the playoffs.

2011 - Swansea - 3rd - 80 Points
2010 - Blackpool - 6th - 70 Points
2009 - Burnley - 5th - 76 Points

3rd Place - 6

Average Points Total - 79.9 (11 play-off winner out of the last 15 achieved a minimum of 80 points). That is the minimum standard we should be aiming for to give us a realistic chance of promotion. A team scraping into 6th hasn't gained promotion for 14 years. 9 out of the last 10 play-off winners achieved 80+ points during the season and 8 out of 10 of them finished in the top 4.
