WW2 bomb discovered in Goole

I've worked in that area of the country a fair bit. One day I was on a chemical refinery and there were loads of ground sensor lorries on the land next door. Turns out they were planning an extension to the site and they knew of at least 2 unexploded WWll bombs buried thereabouts but didn't know where. The guy told me they could well be under the active site, among its pipework and storage tanks!

Google has the furthest inland port in Britain apparently

further inland that Goole? ;)
Really? First I've heard of that. I've read it was a Dornier.

Not sure on the origin of this one but the RAF used to dump tonnes of bombs in and around the coast when they returned... they couldnt land unless they were empty.

The Humber was a prime landmark for coming home so was right in the firing line.

You're right, they did. I thought the poster was referring to the bomb that hit our railway station.

Amazing how during wartime, people just got on with daily life and moved on. Hard to believe that the remains of this crashed bomber and the corpses inside it were literally covered over at South Bank and forgotten about until 1997...

Goole is a strange place - drove through it a couple times to get to Boro games when working in Scunthorpe. Once nearly missed the beginning of a game when the bridge was raised in Goole. People having a go at Teesside so visit some places in what was Humberside.

It tickles me that It’s not pronounced Goole anymore, as the major populous is becoming Eastern European, it’s pronounced Gooooole !
