Yawning

This morning my daughter yawned and I said 'Aaw are you still tired?'
She said ' You don't yawn when you are tired', to which I replied, 'Yes, you do'.
She then proceeded to ask me for the scientific evidence behind yawning when tired and I have just over 4 hours to find some before she comes home from school.
I am reaching out to this board for help so i don't look a prat in front of a ten year old.

Yawning is still a bit of a medical mystery and is full of theories. Though being tired is accepted as one of the triggers.
It used to be thought it was a way to get more oxygen to the brain, but the current thinking is that the body is trying to 'kick start' the brain with a physical action.

But more importantly......
Did seeing your daughter yawn make you yawn as well? If not then you are a psychopath.
FACT.

Just seeing the thread title before I opened the post made me yawn and I'm not tired.
Was typing this as TeaCider replied.

Yawns are contagious. I met my first proper girlfriend by making her yawn in the Empire, by yawning. We made each other yawn quite a bit for the rest of the relationship.

Thats why you went wrong. When you meet a first girlfriend, you should hope for an (age appropriate) improper one first.

Tell her the formula for yawning is as follows:

HSD^2 x IYA^2 + QPR = NSMA^48h + GFW^2

HSD (Hourly Sleep Deprivation)
QPR (Questioning Parental Reasoning)
IYA (Involuntary Yawning Action)
GFW (Grounded For Weekend)
NSMA (No Social Media Access)
^ (to the power of)
h (number of hours)

Sorted…..You can thank me later.

I yawned when I read the title of the OP and about 5 times whilst reading the thread. Is that normal?
