Following on from the nonsense lyrics thread, what are your favourites?

I think this whole song is genius.

‘When they tell you they understand,
That’s your cue to get out while you still can,
Cashing in and cancelling all your plans,
You could bury everything under the sand,
Or you could probably have whatever you like,
But you could never handle the simple life,
You would never settle for just the sights,
And who could blame you?’

The Libertines - Time for Heroes

There's fewer more distressing sights than that
Of an Englishman in a baseball cap
And we'll die in the class we were born
That's a class of our own, my love
A class of our own, my love

It doesn't really matter
What you've got to say
They never F***ing listen
To you any way

So **** the system
You can bring it down
So **** the system
We can bring it down

Future is chaos and anarchy
The misery continues
It's the governement way

So **** the system
You can bring it down
So **** the system
Chaos will bring it down

Get up and stand up
And fight back now
They didn't want to listen
But they'll listen now

So **** the system
You can bring it down
So **** the system
We can bring it down

Thousands of homeless
And more each day
The misery continues
It's the government way
**** the government

I rememberer splitting up with a girl who meant a lot to me at the time and she agreed to move out and i would retain the place...and it wasn't then but years later I heard the lyrics to Ordinary World by Duran Duran

"Came in from a rainy Thursday on the avenue
Thought I heard you talking softly
I turned on the lights, the TV, and the radio
Still, I can't escape the ghost of you"

And that is word perfect as to how I felt coming back home after she had gone, I was just making noise to drown the silence - not my favourite band by any means but they did have their moments...still love that song though.

All the towns lay out across the dust plains
Like tombstones waiting for their names

by the Eagles- "Doolin Dalton"

I've had enough of all the talk on how you're savin' me
Talk like you're self assured but all you are is history
Speak slow, I want you to know that
I'm a realist and an optimist
But I swear to you, I'm not getting over this
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I wouldn't hold my breath if I was you
'Cause I'll forget but I'll never forgive you
Don't you know, don't you know?
True friends stab you in the front
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Kiss her with passion as much as you can
Run your hands through her hair whenever she's sad
And when she doesn't notice how pretty she is
Tell her over and over so she never forgets

Pretty much any line from Something for the weekend by Divine Comedy
I introduced my lad to Divine Comedy’s Something For The Weekend last night as it was on Jo Whiley.

He was not impressed with me signing along with proper gusto and voice changes throughout 🙈

The screen door slams, Mary's dress sways
Like a vision, she dances across the porch as the radio plays
Roy Orbison singing for the lonely
Hey, that's me, and I want you only
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again
I think we could add all the lyrics from Thunder Rd - quality.

Don't run back inside, darling you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking that maybe we ain't that young anymore
Show a little faith, there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty, but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me

Just a minute 'fore you leave, girl
Just a minute 'fore you touch the door
What is it that you're trying to achieve, girl?
Do you think we can talk about it some more?

You know, the streets are filled with vipers
Who've lost all ray of hope
You know, it's not even safe no more
In the palace of the Pope

Has been since I first heard it 49 years ago.
Bob Dylan

Oh, all the money that in my whole life I did spend
Be it mine right or wrongfully
I let it slip gladly to friends
To tie up the time most forcefully
But the bottles are done
We've killed each one
And the table's full and overflowed
And the corner sign
Says it's closing time
So I'll bid farewell and be down the road

Oh, ev'ry girl that ever I've touched
I did not do it harmfully
And ev'ry girl that ever I've hurt
I did not do it knowin'ly
But to remain as friends
You need the time to make amends
And stay behind
And since my feet are now fast
And point away from the past
I'll bid farewell and be down the line

Oh, ev'ry foe that ever I faced
The cause was there before we came
And ev'ry cause that ever I fought
I fought it full without regret or shame
But the dark does die
As the curtain is drawn and somebody's eyes
Must meet the dawn
And if I see the day
I'd only have to stay
So I'll bid farewell in the night and be gone

Oh, ev'ry thought that's strung a knot in my mind
I might go insane if it couldn't be sprung
But it's not to stand naked under unknowin' eyes
It's for myself and my friends my stories are sung
But the time ain't tall
Yet on time you depend and no word is possessed
By no special friend
And though the line is cut
It ain't quite the end
I'll just bid farewell till we meet again

Oh, a false clock tries to tick out my time
To disgrace, distract, and bother me
And the dirt of gossip blows into my face
And the dust of rumors covers me
But if the arrow is straight
And the point is slick
It can pierce through dust no matter how thick
So I'll make my stand
And remain as I am
And bid farewell and not give a damn

Bowie
Pushing through the market square
So many mothers sighing (sighing)
News had just come over
We had five years left to cry in (cry in)
News guy wept and told us
Earth was really dying (dying)
Cried so much his face was wet
Then I knew he was not lying (lying)
I heard telephones, opera house, favorite melodies
I saw boys, toys, electric irons and TV's
My brain hurt like a warehouse, it had no room to spare
I had to cram so many things to store everything in there
And all the fat, skinny people
And all the tall, short people
And all the nobody people
And all the somebody people
I never thought I'd need so many people

A girl my age went off her head
Hit some tiny children
If the Black hadn't have pulled her off
I think she would have killed them
A soldier with a broken arm
Fixed his stare to the wheels of a Cadillac
A cop knelt and kissed the feet of a priest
And a queer threw up at the sight of that
I think I saw you in an ice-cream parlor
Drinking milk shakes cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine
Don't think you knew you were in this song
And it was cold and it rained, so I felt like an actor
And I thought of Ma and I wanted to get back there
Your face, your race, the way that you talk
I kiss you, you're beautiful, I want you to walk

We've got five years, stuck on my eyes
Five years, what a surprise
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, that's all we've got
We've got five years, what a surprise
Five years, stuck on my eyes
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, that's all we've got
We've got five years, stuck on my eyes
Five years, what a surprise
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, that's all we've got
We've got five years, what a surprise
We've got five years, stuck on my eyes
We've got five years, my brain hurts a lot
Five years, that's all we've got
Five years
Five years
Five years
Five years

It really doesn’t matter what chords I play
What words I say
Or time of day it is
As it’s only a Northern song

George Harrison been less than impressed that he received less money from his songs than John Lennon and Paul McCartney

Hi! It's me, the girl from the bus
Remember the last tour?
Well, information is not knowledge
Knowledge is not wisdom
Wisdom is not truth
Truth is not beauty
Beauty is not love
Love is not music
Music is the best
Wisdom is the domain of the wis which is extinct
Beauty is a French phonetic corruption of a short cloth neck ornament currently in resurgence
