I am firmly in the Fry camp. That said, Paddy is being scapegoated, his mistakes do not warrant the level of anger displayed against Huddersfield in particular and yesterday versus Burnley. He is not as poor as some are making out, he has different attributes to Fry Carrick has his reasons and we should trust him for now, he is trying to build a style and philosophy so different to what we have seen for such a long time.
Some fans are over reacting because of 2 defeats. If we had won both games, I doubt Paddy gets the pelters he has to the same degree. He has his limitations, so does Fry and all our players, we are a Championship team. Lets be honest here, were we to go up, then I think we would struggle badly in the PL, even with significant investment as our pool of players to choose from would be at a lower grade than many in that league currently.
Brighton and Brentford are the models we need to learn from and scapegoating players and managers unfairly is wrong, we conceded 4 goals against Huddersfield and 2 v Burnley, we have conceded more goals than any team in the top 10. That is not because of Paddy McNair, it is because of the entire team, the manager and his tactics and selection, the quality of opposition, standards of officials and so much more. McNair is a small cog in the reasons why we ship goals, replacing him for Fry is what I would do personally, but I would also start Forss on the right too as he offers help for Smith defensively that Ramsey and McGree don’t when on the right. Our problems and weaknesses are there to see and be exploited, McNair being benched will not solve all our issues overnight, not by a long chalk, but lets also applaud them for where we have come from and may yet still go to.
