Coventry & Luton - every dog has its day

To be honest, these were two teams I've fancied right from the off thus season and I think the reason why is that they and their fans deserve it. Their success had a 'written in the stars' quality. Karma was in play somehow.
Coventry were a biggish club - at least as big as us - when I was a kid. They were a bit of a bogey team, and their decline was alarming if you think of it that it could've been us. We were locked out of our ground for a few weeks; they were locked out of theirs for several years. It's same as Brighton: the fans who stuck with them - respect!
Luton the same. I have in-laws and students who are season tickets there and they're a proud club, with a loyal fanbase. Because it's an Irish town maybe, I see them a bit like Portsmouth: a Southern club with a Northern flavour.
So good luck to both. I'm rooting for your top quality fans. We've had our days in the sun relatively recently, and whoever goes up, it'll be good to see them back in the big time.

Coventry have always been shyte even as a kid I can remember how shyte they were.

Should have been a Boro vs Sunderland final for me.. if not then Luton all the way.

Better team, better manager, better players..

I know a lot of Boro fans didn't want it but a Boro/Sunderland final would have been a mouth-watering prospect in my opinion, for both ourselves and for neutrals.

I understand there were concerns that there would be trouble off the field but I genuinely think most of the time you only find trouble attending a football game if you go looking for it.

A Coventry/Luton final has the potential to be one of the dullest finals in living memory. I won't watch it.

I remember we drew them at home in the 3rd round of the fa cup when I was approx 10 years old and we were both in the old first division; I recall it because back then the fa cup was huge and we comprehensively beat Coventry 3-0 at Ayresome park 😃

The only game against Coventry I recall was a 4-4 draw at Ayresome, in maybe 1975.

Graeme Souness had a fantastic game, as did Colin Stein for Coventry.

I dont think Coventry v Luton will be dull at all. In fact it could be a slug fest. That said I won’t be watching either as going to cricket.

100%. I definitely want Luton to win the final. (One of my best mates is a Luton fan. We've joked about a Luton v Boro play off final for a few years, so I'm even more gutted about Wednesday night). I think I've probably seen Luton in every division over their journey, as a 'football tourist' going with my mate... so I definitely want to see them win at Wembley.

Coventry were always a small club throughout their long stay in the too flight.
They are on a roll currently and have had a couple of big crowds.

Historically maybe, but from the 60s onwards under Jimmy Hill, Coventry became an established top-flight club with gates comparable to ours. They also won an FA Cup, which we never have. Coventry is a large 300,000+ city that can sustain a major football club. They're no minnows, and as I said, their loyal fans having to travel to Birmingham, Northampton etc to watch home games (just as Brighton supporters had to go to places like Maidstone) together with the constant fear their club would go under - because of gross financial mismanagement that had nothing to do with the supporters - means it's hard to begrudge them their success, however much Wednesday night hurt.

nah, not having that. They have only had one run in the top flight in their entire history, yes it was a long run from 68 to 01, yet only finished above 10th 3 times. Always there to make up the numbers. 33 years total, but it puts them well behind us in top flight seasons.

Some of the attendances in those years were in the bottom 2 for top flight sides often averaging 12-16k.

The 87 cup final win was obviously the big moment for the club, but it still remains the only senior cup final they have ever had.

It's never really been a footballing city, certainly wasn't when I lived and worked there. Maybe now the prem is all pervasive and attracts more middle class money, maybe they could support a prem club, maybe finishing 4th bottom every season will see fans be a bit meh.

Ground share with MK Dons for a season?

£10m for stadium upgrades.. £100m for a nee stadium which is on it way this year anyway.

How about.. just buy MK Dons? What a fitting end to a non club that would be!

Pretty sure I read somewhere that MK Dons was worth £8m.. they’d save £2m there straight away.. then there’s the player sales.
(new Hartlepool owner could get a reet deal)

£100m saved from the new stadium, sell off Kenilworth Road, sell off the land at Power Court..
