Agent Orange Indictment

Well, on seeing the indictment it reads more like a comedy sketch than a serous political corruption story. Piles of boxes kept in a bathroom. From the photo it looks like boxes may have been stored in the shower cubicle. Showing secret documents to people with no security clearance, all recorded on audio. Boxes falling off the top of a stack and spilling papers everywhere.

Add to that evidence of burned documents and evidence of him flushing top secret papers down the loo.
He is going to do time!

Living here and dealing directly with the effects of it makes it something I find no humour in. As I say, it’s likely me being tetchy but all the same.
 
It’s a laughable situation for Biden and the dems — their last throw of the dice before the next election. Previously two impeachments based on lies and misinformation from a failed MI5 operative. Not that I’m in favour of a billionaire president or anyone who has enough cash to use it as confetti but Biden has also used the system to entice others and enrich himself. American politics eh.

It’s typically Trump tactics mix things, spin them round be untruthful about them and for some it becomes the truth. Sadly a lot of people buy this BS and that’s why the Republicans put up with him.

I have a very cynical view of American politics at present. So I assume this is an attempt by the Dems to ensure that the orange one wins the nomination. Because they’re terrified that if he doesn’t people might then notice their guy is senile and nearly dead.

But as outsiders, even on the left, can’t we aspire to more? Can’t we aspire to America electing a Democrat who has policies he can comprehend and coherently defend (and who can walk ten yards in a level stage) against a Republican who can do likewise?

For all our glibness over the current war, this is unarguably the most serious thing we have faced in 40 years, possibly in 80. We need more than a leader of the free world who isn’t Trump. We need one who has a functioning brain.

He broke the law.
He horded secrets not just about the Us but all their allies also including the UK.

This may have a political element but not in the way you suggest. I study American political history and Trump makes Nixon look like a law abiding citizen in comparison. Heaven Nixon never paraded nuclear secrets to foreign agents and members of the public.

People need to realise the scale and type of documents he stole, horded and lied about.
 
The whole classified document situation is also very strange, when the usual procedure from a military standpoint is for such documents to be fully accounted for—before one is allowed to remove them from a government facility. So the government process is probably flawed from the aspect of classified document accountability. The court case seems complicated but who knows what to make of anything in American courts.

I could understand a few documents going missing but dozens of boxes with thousands of documents? Seems like the secret/classified document thing is just a meaningless facade.

Very quaint to have them in hard copy as well don't you think? Trump probably has them all scanned on a memory stashed behind the cistern in the downstairs toilet.

You’d think in a world where we have electronic access to all things documenting why is there a need to remove anything from any corporation or governmental organization? Some things in the US are so outdated it’s laughable at times how things work. But again this is America at its finest or worst depending how you want to look at it.

Surely the system worked to some effect? They knew he had them and instigated an investigation / raid as he hadn't complied with the process?

Apparently (I read online somewhere) it is quite normal for Presidents to have boxes of documents for their personal use, some of which they keep. I assume from the listed indictments it is lies on what he has, or refusal to confirm/return certain levels of documents that had led to things escalating to this point.

Yeah, if he had access he could have just converted them to pdf's and returned the originals?

he should, but the judge is one that he put in power and has already made a seriously dodgy decision in his favour in another case
