Lens in for Chuba?

I posted this on the other thread

If he wants to sign he will the fa t he hasn’t says it all.

But I’m surprised a player that has spent his entire career as a nomadic wannabe is now prepared to gamble it all and walk away after last season from a team that he’s finally settled into.

Ah well I think he’ll regret. It.
We have been here before with so .any other players, who finally found a club, team and manager that was right for them but they decided to move on and there careers never really took off, Ziege, Zenden, Merson even Juniniho to an extent but in todays game more so than ever its about cash, chuba will get ptobably the highest deal of his career on a 4 year contract, good luck at we move on hopefully we re place with players that can better deliver carricks vision and that ultimately as a squad can get over the promotiin line

I think everyone wins.

If we get 12m that is a good return on the 2.7m we paid for him, considering we would have let him leave for free 12 months ago
He will get a massive increase in wages that will set him up for life
As a club he gave everything he had, we got the 20 goal monkey of our backs.
We get to re-invest a significant amount of money in new talent, probably 2 or 3 players, if one of them comes good we probably make significant financial returns again.

As long as we get a good fee, this is the model. Brentford fans didn't want Gray to leave, or Hogan, or Maupey or Watkins. But it lead to them being an established premier league side.

He's an employee at the end of the day, you can't expect them to love the badge, they will go where they get the best deal. As would anyone on here despite all the claims to the contrary. Your financial security and that of your family and kids will always trump a club you played for for a year or two.

Whilst I’m gutted, not massively and surprised, no.

Football is mainly about money, loyalty is rare to non existent. Although when you reflect on how the club treated Chuba last season, who can really blame him, we were all disloyal to him in truth, well nearly all.

Loyalty to Chuba was somewhat lacking last summer.

There was no clamour to give him a new contract out of loyalty.

I'd gladly have kept him if he signed a new contract. However, I'll wish him all the best: both the club and he have profited from his time here.

Presuming that wherever he ends up, this will be an undisclosed fee. Some fans will take as proof that we sold him on the cheap and the club want to keep that quiet. Others will suggest it is because we don't want selling clubs to know how much we have to spend. Of the clubs mentioned we know Lens are definitely interested but their opening bid was underwhelming, Sheff Utd are very likely to bid bit can't see them offering a huge amount and Ajax still feels a bit of a long shot based, I think, on one journalist (I know which I would choose if I was Chuba!)

Alternatively, 8 to 10 million pounds for a bloke who's had one decent season in his career, is in the last year of his contract, won't sign a new one, and who we'll get bu99er all for in 9 months time
Unplayable last season, not just his goals but his all round play. That link between midfield and attack. Last Boro striker to get 29 goals? Let's not underestimate how big a loss this is. It's a huge one and Scott is going to have to really pull something out of the bag to replace him. £8-10 million is nothing compared to what you would get for promotion to the Premier League which was far more likely to happen with Akpom in the team.

He did it for one season, only 15 million and get two quality players in should do it

My hope is no one meets the asking price so we just go **** it, let's have a shot at getting promoted. Can see a deal for 10 million plus add ons going through though.

I still think this could happen. I don't think he's desperate to leave, but supposes it depends on whether a club is willing to stump up the cash. Which I suppose includes us. I can't see the financial sense in selling him for a relatively low price, then having to pay transfer fees, signing on fees, agent fees and wages to replace him. Surely worth giving him what he wants.

Need to quantify statements like that. Yes we're more likely to be promoted with him, but how much would you say?

Give us a percentage chance with him and without him. That's what the club has to consider when making these decisions

One season but the lad came through Arsenal's academy. Got in the first team at a very young age. Played for England U16-U21. People talk about the lad like he's got no pedigree. It's laughable. Chuba achieved in that ONE SEASON more than any other Boro striker has achieved in god knows how many years in terms of goals.

This attitude of ah its ok we'll get a couple of quality players in and jobs a good'n will probably come back to bite. I like your confidence nevertheless.

How can I put a percentage on that? 🤣 🤔 Simple maths tells you 29 goals from one player is a huge asset to any club.

Take akpoms goals last season remove them count how many points we have. Take all of the strikers we have had since Fenton. Average out their goals per season. Add them back on. BOOM! science!

The club has to do exactly that when considering what to do, so it's only fair we do so when commenting on decisions about Chuba's future. I'm only asking for your opinion.

Do you believe he's 100% guaranteed to score 29 goals this season? Last season's goals get 0 points for this season.

He did it last season and it didn't gain us promotion, so even if he does do it, no one can claim we're assured of going up if he does.
