Anyone remotely interested in the Saudi League?

No. I have no interest. It's practically an exhibition league. Half the teams are owned by the same person. I have no idea who any of the teams are, I have no idea who plays for any of them, I don't know who won last season, no idea if they have relegation and no idea why they are all called Al. All I know is they have a lot of money and they've overpaid for some players that don't care they are playing a season worth of friendlies because they are being paid over the top amounts for it.

There is no glory or prestige for winning the league or finishing bottom and it should be embarrassing for anyone that has played at the top level for any significant amount of time to be playing alongside and against such low standard players who I presume are getting paid buttons in comparison.

Then you are missing out my friend
Maybe I am.

Sky tell me that the Premiership is the Greatest Show On Earth and its a Super Sunday but I'm sure they are lying. There's maybe one a game a month thats actually any good. I watch MOTD but rarely watch to the end as most of the games are dross.

I'm probably a bit old school. Just watch my own club and country.

No interest in European games and very little in the Premier League. Once my bet goes down all interest gone.

So deffo no interest in Saudi Leagues.

I am a big fan of football, and I'll be honest I'll sit and give most games a chance if I have the time!

I have no preference for most of the games I watch - just hope for good games of football. I also like to watch some of the standout players you see in the PL and UCL, a level we dont get to see at the Riverside - at the minute ;)

Each to their own mate (y)

Id like to see any English player who goes there excluded from all the England national teams be it the full team or u21
I'm sure i read a very diplomatic interview with Southgate where he was discussing Henderson. Southgate said something like nobody is excluded because they play in Saudi but it is hard judge their performance in a league of that quality.

i took that to be a polite way of saying you're not getting picked if you play exhibition football all season.

No.

I saw a clip the other day on Twitter of Neymar playing in a game over there, I'm not sure if it was competitive or a friendly, but the opposition players basically just stood there as he walked past, trying to flick the ball over them as he laughs at them. Was pretty cringeworthy even if it was a friendly.

I'm already sick of Sky Sports and TalkSport trying to promote it constantly.

I don't watch any of the other major European leagues apart from one off games like El Classico or the Milan derby, so there is absolutely zero interest in this.

I've just seen Neymar's goal on social media. The opposition defence basically let him walk through and score. Anyone would think they were told to allow him to score. Joke of a league and hopefully the bubble will burst soon, just as it did in China.

Absolutely zero interest whatsoever, and I think it's embarassing how many media outlets and social media accounts have started promoting it in this country.

Horrible regime using sport to distract from their atrocities.

I'm sure it will be very popular in the Arab world (a huge audience) and there will be plenty of glory supporters from the developing world jumping on the bandwagon, so it'll be here to stay, sadly.
This is the point. It will have very little interest in Europe but will be watched in Africa, Asia and Middle East so will still draw huge audiences.
MLS has very little interest from Europe but obviously the interest is there in the States and has managed to become sustainable.

Are you sure? Even during and after the European ban?

English clubs were dominant in Europe before that 5 year ban because of fan disorder, and they returned to putting in strong showings after it was lifted.

Unless you're arguing that the ban erased all history and standing of the English First Division or that football did start in 1992, then it's not really comparable.

There's obviously no direct way of showing the standing of the league during a period where they couldn't play internationally.

Wow, that can't be a real game, surely? The defence just stood off him and gave up. Looks like they were 10-0 down after 15 mins and downed tools.

If I was that no.5 in the last 15 sec of the clip, I would have snapped Neymar on 2 for taking the p iss.

It's a charity match in South America in 2018, nothing to do with Saudi Arabia.

No, but my attachment is to a club, not a league or a player.

However, across the world there is more interest in players than leagues or clubs. Real Madrid is the club with the most twitter followers, but Rolando has more than double their number.

I can see the SAudi league becoming a touring league, playing half it's matches in Europe, US and the far east as gesture of "good will". IF they have the top players, it will sell out wherever it goes.

That's partly because businesses have boring social media outputs and everything they do has to be "official". Individuals are giving a behind the scenes look at their lives.
