People sh*tting their pants in August again

9 goals conceded in 4 games this season, the only team in the Championship to not have led at any point.

Can't defend, can't score enough to make up for it anymore.

Small surprise Boro fans are upset about Boro not doing well.

That's just going off this season, this run has been going on since April.

We're not conceding these goals because we sold Akpom or because we didn't re-sign Archer, it's down to coaching and the players that are already here.
A run starting with players maybe wanting to be elsewhere?

So maybe we have to replace those players?

4 games in and suffering why?
Injuries?
Incomplete squad?
Some players moving on?
Players settling in?

We have players two games in replacing premier league players.. give em a chance ffs

How many games would it be reasonable to give a new player to get up to speed and adapt?

So.. after losing Akpom, Archer, Giles, Ramsey etc.. we should immediately be churning out 3 points per game?
Don't think anyone is demanding that "we should be churning out 3 points per game", but many are concerned that were have not replaced the players we have lost, loans or otherwise, and are much weaker than we were. There is very little evidence of tactical flexibility, and we keep trying the same things over and again, with the same poor results.

No one is sh-tting themselves, as the OP states, but people are right to be concerned that we've begun this season even worse that we finished the last. There is little sign of improvement, and nothing to suggest or give confidence that we'll bring in the players we so desperately need in the next 5 days. If this continues it will only end one way, and we are back to square one again.

It's because existing players aren't performing, so I'm not sure why people keep bringing up losing the loan players and new signings.

Bar the 3rd goal yesterday, every goal that we've conceded has been down to players who have been here for a long time not performing well enough.

Howson, Fry and Smith did not need to get up to speed, they all cost us.

Latte Lath was absolutely fine yesterday.

It's our defending that is the problem.

Let’s see how the window goes before we speak about how well we have replaced our players. Don’t worry.. I’ll be doing an in depth fag packet analysis.

Weaker than we were.. we’ll be able to see that after the window and and after a number of games.

If we’re 11 games in on less than 10 points then we can legitimately say we started the season worse than last. If we reach the half way point with less than 35 points.. we can start asking questions of the squad and perhaps the management.

Let’s just see shall we.

Tactical flexibility.. let’s just see.

Howson was poor, Smith was poor and Fry was poor.

They weren’t last season.. but they will have to up their game to stay in the team.

Every other team has new players bedding in and players from last season missing. We're not exceptional in that regard so it can't be the only reason we have had such a disastrous start to the season.

Here's a thread with every goal we've conceded this season, none of them occurred because we didn't have Cameron Archer up top or Giles at left back, Engel's mistake aside.
I said something similar yesterday, we can debate shape / personnel / tactics / whatever but if we keep making basic individual mistakes we will keep conceding.

We went through something similar at the start of last season when we kept conceding from outside the box and refusing to take our own chances.

As fans we can either ride this out or demand another change in manager.

If we’d picked up 7-8 points we could say ee’re not to far off top. We’re running well behind and looking at bridging a massive gap.

This is due to transfer policy of using many loans to get a quality first XI from September onwards but bringing in cut price rough diamonds to try and get a team to be slightly competitive from the 1st game.

Does anyone remember Steve Mclaren's first season in charge. Good job we didn't sack him on the, isn't it?

I would need a week of bad nightmares of past life war zones after eating a vindaloo and a dose of Malta dog to even come close to s***ing myself; supporting the Boro doesn’t even come close!

from a starting run of games that is not particularly difficult on paper.

Nah come on. West Brom, Coventry, Millwall all certainly are difficult games on paper.

We can be a little disappointed not to have taken a draw from the Millwall and West Brom games based on how they went on the day. But honestly Huddersfields the only match so far I've thought no we should be beating sides like that.

Wait what? You thought we should have got a point yesterday? Did you actually see the game?

We had the better chances, and gifted them the game through our own ineptitude.

Could easily have been level at half time, and then Engel gifted them the match, with Smith making sure of it.

I'm not sure we'd have deserved the point, mistakes are still mistakes even if they shouldn't be happening, but on another day, we'd have got a point there.

Smith shouldn't have been on a yellow card to begin with, Latte Lath missed a great chance that he'd created himself, Engel's brainless backpass.

The fourth goal obviously ultimately came from us chasing an equaliser with 10 men.

I know it's not everything but we created more chances and better chances yesterday despite being down to 10 men for 40 minutes.

Stupid defensive errors, a little bad luck and not taking chances is the story of our season.

If you look at the opta stats we even had the better chances against Coventry. I think it is more about turning around mentality than other huge changes much like what happened with Leo and then Carrick last year.

Delusional
We were outfought all over the pitch and ponderous
Only Lath gets any credit and how anybody thinks that Smith is a championship player is beyond me.

And if my Aunty had balls she'd be my Uncle.

Not sure what your point is here?
Obviously the result is the result, I'm not trying to claim otherwise.

You're the one who took issue with somebody else saying that we could have got a point yesterday.

We could have, we had the chances, and most of theirs came from errors on our part.

A big part of the reason fans are so frustrated with yesterday is because the players shot themselves in the foot and could have done better.
