🐙Cut your energy bills nearly in half with Octopus Tracker

I am trying to switch to the Tracker from British Gas but they just keep offering me their Flexible tariff.

Even if i have a smart meter already, do i still have to take the Flexible tariff then switch to the Tracker later. I thought only people who didn't have a smart meter had to do it that way.

You join on flexible and then ask for tracker 👍

That's the point I'm upto, they have said I'm switched over but apparently they are waiting for my smart meters to start sending the readings before I can switch to the tracker.
Dunno how long that takes? Just says "your readings are on the way" under usage?

Mine just took a couple of days.

As said above octopus doesnt quote for the tracker, they quote you for their standard variable. They'll then give you a supply start date. On that day, hit them up on twitter or ring them up and ask to move to tracker, accept the terms and away you go.

People without a smart meter have the additional step of asking for an install on go live day and waiting for that to be done.

If you want to know roughly what you would pay on tracker I can work it out for you

I think this advice should be slightly modified? Octopus aren’t moving any new customers immediately on to tracker, they are saying they need to wait up to a couple of weeks for meter to connect and be sending half hourly readings.

I think it depends on the customer and how quickly you switch over as other people I know are able to move over still, whereas your switch was quite fast so may have taken more time for industry flows to come through

Yeah, was just thinking the poster above having same issue and the Octopus rep on Twitter told me it always takes up to 2 weeks 🤷‍♂️

I switched over officially on Friday last week. Signed up via the website for the tracker that day and I’ve just been put on the tracker this morning. Very good service.

It can take up to two weeks for the switch once someone has applied depending on their metering setup, but typically we'll get them switched over quicker than this. If it does take us some time to action the switch, we'll backdate the tariff to the same date they applied 😊

Without knowing your exact standing charge and unit rates I can give a rough comparison for you only

On current price cap you would be using 369.1 units per month, and be paying approx £111 a month on price cap for that elec assuming 52p standing charge

On octopus tracker at 17p you'd be paying £62, 19p £70, 23p £84

The current rate is about 17-18p but that gives you a range

Without knowing your exact standing charge and unit rates I can give a rough comparison for you only

On current price cap you would be using 369.1 units per month, and be paying approx £111 a month on price cap for that elec assuming 52p standing charge

On octopus tracker at 17p you'd be paying £62, 19p £70, 23p £84

The current rate is about 17-18p but that gives you a range
Thanks for that, my current rates are probably irrelevant now as they end on the 8th October, then i would go to the cap rate, or a fixed deal at a penny cheaper per unit.

Yeah I based that on the current price cap, it would fall a little based on the October reduction so maybe a bit less but still good savings
 
Does anyone else have almost constant problems with logging into their account with Octopus? Either via their app or via a browser?

Have you tried clearing cache etc, only issue I ever have is sometimes it says I am logged in but have to then login.

Raise it with then on Twitter though as might be something they have seen before

Yes the savings are very good.

Wish i had read this thread sooner because there is no exit fee on my current deal, so i could have joined Octopus ages ago.
 
Further update on the backdating. Octopus say they will only backdate to the date they began to get half hourly readings from the meter, not to the switch date or the date the customer asked to be moved to tracker.
 
I moved to Octopus a few weeks ago and was fortunate to move on to tracker within a couple of days, thanks for all the info @ThatFragranceGuy 👍 couple of questions. I have Octo aid on IOS and can see charges and daily rates with half hour splits so looking at regularly. Do I get charged based on when I use the electric and the charge at that half hour slot or are charges based on a daily rate? I can see it is currently significantly cheaper but you have mentioned comparison to price cap, is that something within the Octo-Aid app as can’t see anything that does that cheers
