Well the Port Vale ticket arguments have already started

Newcastle do it by contacting the home club and stopping 100 tickets out of say 3,000. If you’re selected then you go to the away ticket office, present your ID and get your re-issued ticket to get in.

If you don’t have ID for the corresponding ticket you will be refused entry and the person who’s ticket it is will be deducted priority points. If they’re caught again at another fixture, the persons season card is cancelled.
I wonder if this actually puts people off.

The T's and C's don't count for much. The club actively allow you to 'transfer' your season card to someone else to use on a matchday, despite the T's and C's prohibiting it. In a court of law the clause would be basically worthless.

Reading online, it does.

My colleague who’s a Newcastle season ticket sent me this the other day:

Thank you for providing information for your appeal.

We have reviewed the information that you have provided and will detail the investigation we have undertook and the outcome of your appeal.

The club has implemented spot checks this season to ensure fairness to all supporters who purchase tickets through its established loyalty points system and to prevent potential ticket touting.

Demand for away tickets is extremely high and the club continues to receive complaints about match tickets being passed on to supporters who may not meet the criteria to purchase. We understand work commitments, illness etc can occur which would prevent a Supporter from travelling and do allow Supporters to cancel their ticket purchase up to 72 hours before the fixture and give the tickets back to the club to allow us to allocate tickets fairly to the next supporter who qualified under the Loyalty Points system.

We understand from your appeal you tried to contact the club via telephone but were unable to get through. We do apologise for any delays in getting through to us. We do however have other avenues in which you can contact us, such as the box office and supporter services email addresses and the web contact form. Whilst carrying out our investigation we were unable to find any correspondence from yourself regarding the Brighton tickets.

The terms and conditions you make reference to in your appeal apply to away supporters visiting St James’ Park, which is detailed on page 2 of the terms ‘"Ground" means the football stadium at St James’ Park, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 4ST and all other locations owned, occupied or utilised by the Club notified to you at any time.’ Unfortunately, these do not apply to our Supporters visiting other clubs.

On the 31/08/23 we sent you a communication regarding your away tickets for Brighton, within that email it referenced the spot checks that would be undertaken by the club and took you to the web article which detailed how spot checks would work and the consequence of ID not matching the name on the ticket - ‘Should the identification not correspond with the ticket, the person the original ticket purchase is linked to will have their loyalty points deducted in full.’ We can see this email correspondence was opened 5 times.

Regretfully, due to the above findings we will be removing your loyalty points with immediate effect. Please note any tickets that you have purchased for Wolves, Dortmund or Bournemouth will be honoured.

We understand this is not the outcome you were hoping for and apologise for any disappointment caused. You do have the option to conduct an independent appeal via the Independent Football Ombudsmen should you wish to https://www.theifo.co.uk/

Kind Regards,

Wonder how that works for people who share season tickets, even family members who may share one?

This thread started about arguments over Port Vale tickets didn't it. If only 2 away games have not gone to general sale then surely everyone is getting a fair opportunity. Exeter and Sunderland would have sold out with any ticketing system.

Not really relevant when people are picking up points for then using them for games that DONT go to general sale. For example Port Vale will be a sell out long before it gets to general sale, as will other games throughout the season - that's when this debate will be relevant.

Yeah, but as I say, if Boro tried to do this for someone letting someone else use their season ticket, despite making a 'transfer' facility available, a decent lawyer would have no issue getting it overturned.

The whole Priority points thing is a mess.

I think it should be:
Season card holders 5+ years
Season card holders 1-5 years
My Boro members
General sale

Well I don't think I'll be going so you and Ingleby have one less person person to worry over flouting the rules 😉

Jokes aside though, if you were in my position and able to bring your mates with you to an away game, would you do it? Or would you decide against it because of morals and let other fans buy the tickets?

I actually dont stand on any side of the argument here.

I took my non Boro fan mate to Norwich, using another mates season ticket but equally I can see the frustrations when people "game" the system and use their season ticket for other people, merely to get the points needed for the big games.

Fans are able to get tickets for Watford, Norwich, Plymouth away to earn priority fair and square for Sunderland, Exeter and Port Vale.

You're missing the point here completely Rob, this isn't about people who go to games, it's about people "renting out" their season tickets to accumulate the priority points needed for the big games. Or the people who've gained enough points allowing someone else to use their ticket for the big games, thus depriving someone who gained enough points from actually getting a ticket.

I remember before the 2004 Carling cup final giving my ticket stubs for the league cup home games to a fan on here to help them out as obv as a season ticket holder I didn’t need them.

From memory I think they put you next on the priority after season ticket holders.

Anyway this sort of thing has always happened and agree with Rob the club can’t really win with high demand games, sadly there will always be some who miss out.

well at least you understand why I do it then, because it makes the day out so much better when you can bring a mate. My mate from work supports Bournemouth but he's took a shine to Boro now that I've took him to some away games. He has reciprocated it by taking me to Newcastle away in the cup last December, and I believe at the end of this month we're both going to Sheff United away. So now I've taken a shine to the cherries

That’s how it should work.

But what’s potentially happening then is someone with more points who can’t make the Port Vale game is passing their season card on and stopping that person who’s accrued those points from getting a Port Vale ticket fair and square.
