Private Eye and Teesside freeport

How many hospitals did the Tory central government promise and how many have been opened

Why would a regional mayor do any better?

Why should the mayoral budget be funding it? Yes it would improve the area but if he can get that budget it should be improving things in his remit
40 promised and zero delivered. But a couple of wards had refurbs - paint job, new floor and curtains.

Hospitals are falling down all over the country and it's only the major ones in major cities that have been/are being rebuilt. Satellite, or provincial ones, have a bit of PFI building work carried out. Building here, building there.

North Tees being rebuilt, renewed etc......not happening.

Houchen is a fooking grifter, snake oil salesman and bet he'll already have his excuses ready as to why it wasn't built.

On the radio this morning, Richard Brooks, the Eye journalist responsible for the research was totally disparaging about what was going on. I don’t remember if he named anyone, but suspect what’s in the next instalment must be pretty “Interesting”

Teesworks accounts are out. I'm not an accountant but in summary: money for nothing.

A whopping £54 million profits.

Setting up contracts via a puppet company to filter off tens of millions profit from scrap metal to themselves.
£22 million for 'marketing and consultancy' after another £16 million for the same last year.
Accounts say they have £10 million liabilities, yet Ben T. has said they are on the hook to the public for £107 million hasn't he? Which is it?

How can any of this possibly stand?

Profits triple at Teesworks project after transfer to private developers

FT & Private Eye are both on this. It *should* be given national media attention like Michelle Mone, but you know it won't be. I've already messaged James O'Brien to see if he'll do a followup with Richard Brooks though.

It stinks of corruption. Tories can’t claim it’s a liberal attack either with the FT involved.

North Tees was going to be rebuilt in 2010, but Cameron and Osbourne stopped it, they said to save money. It must get to a point that its more expensive and less efficient to keep old hospitals going.

In Guisborough the old hospital was built as a Workhouse in the 1840s - it was still being used for some activities until Covid.

A brand new unit was kncked up on part of the site in 2022? in a few months and must cost a fraction to run of the old one and is designed for modern medical practices. OK its only primary care stuff, but can probably do more than the old site. The old site is now up for auction. Its win/win situation - the only issue was needing some cash up front to build the new one.

Where does the money up front come from? PFI?

Will there be an ITV documentary about this?
Yes but only after the PPE documentary, the Russia report documentary, the Johnson wallpaper/free accommodation/super-injunction House of Lords appointment documentary, the Johnson Lebedev house visit and House of Lords appointment documentary, the Reece-Mogg/Gove/Baker brexit lies documentary, the government-protected Energy cartel documentary, the government-protected water monopolies documentary etc.
