Just looking back at Forss strike

The lad has superb technique - he always seems to strike the ball so cleanly and very often powerfully. For the goal yesterday he knew exactly what he was going to do before he even set himself up to take the shot. He didn’t even need to look where he was placing the shot because he was already aware of what he needed to do if the ball came to him in that position. That is the mark of a genuine goal scorer - they just know where they’re going to hit the ball into the net before it even reaches them. I’m just wondering now if clubs are going to come calling this summer because he has an excellent all round game, plus the ability to play on the right as well as up front, along with a very good goals per minutes ratio. That must be attracting some attention you would think.I don’t know what he’d be valued at now but the £2.5m we paid was excellent business - just hope we can hold on to him.

He’s a great player and one we missed massively when out injured. I actually think he’s best on the right, as he plays as an inside forward mainly, but understand the suggestion he should play centrally.

I know about the qualities of the modern ball, but striking it to go straight, hard and low (as was needed when Azaz missed that sitter and virtual game clincher) seems to be beyond some players today.

It’s about composure, but also some players just have that natural ability to put the ball in the net. You can’t really coach that into someone - yes you can improve technique to an extent but the instinct to be in the right place at the right time and the cool head to finish chances is very much a god given talent that some players have and others haven’t. I think Forss falls into the “those that have” bracket

I do wonder whether Forss being played out wide is the Carrick version of Stuani.
There's a bit of a difference.

When we had Stuani, we also fortunately had a few other decent strikers, who weren't injured all the time.

We also had other players who could play on the right however. Now whenever Jones is knackered we don't seem to have that luxury.

Cleanest striker of a ball quite possibly since Hasselbaink I reckon. Just one of those rare players that has the knack of generating power with very little backlift.

Last season made more sense him being on the right, because Archer is also a quality finisher and so was Akpom. We had 3 of them in the side.

Exactly this - I don’t see why we shouldn’t give Forss a run as the centre forward whilst Lath and Coburn aren’t fit, or in Coburn’s case carrying an injury. Greenwood could fill the right sided role for a while surely whilst Jones is out.

This. Nearly every time a shot is skied it is because the player hurries the shot, they are therefore hitting it too early so the foot is arcing upwards or they are leaning back. Just watched Kane's latest for Bayern and he times it so perfectly. If you haven't seen it, it's a header but the ball is dropping almost vertically so he has to generate the pace and direction but he waits for the ball. Timing.
