Season card renewal deadline 3 pm today

I doubt it, because then the club will worry that fans will be less likely to renew their season ticket in future.

That's the reason why they keep the walk-up prices so high - it's done to make fans feel that renewing is the only affordable way to watch Boro play on a regular basis.
I don’t get this at all. if you want to watch 2, 5 or 10 games of season, it’s most cost-effective to pay walk up prices. If you want to do 15, it’s about 50-50. if you want to do more than that, get a season ticket. if you were lucky enough to be able to do all 23, you are doing quite well on the discount. It’s just maths. The only real argument is whether 15 is the right break even number.

Regardless of price this season has been nowhere near as good as last season (or the one before) because at the early bird deadline the club was out of the play off race let alone the automatic slots.

It has been a poor season, a fall off in renewals would have happened anyway, some fans are very stretched and will only budget for season cards if the team on the pitch is worth the outlay.

The problem with the current pricing model is that you have to convince old customers to pay more to come back. Not only that but you have to pay a lot more than the people sat around you.

Tell me where else that sells something to you.
In fairness I think most people understand the concept of a loyalty card. If I’m behind somebody in Tesco using the clubcard scheme to get money off I don’t kick off and walk out of the shop in disgust.

The maths has changed though. When the majority of games are on Sky, people will pick and choose in favour of staying away.

I wonder why the club don’t offer a pre payment scheme. We all have our Boro accounts, what’s to stop people paying in to this and building up a credit. Horse had bolted but Covid would have been ideal time to start.

Something like I have just renewed, why can’t I pay £30 a month now in to my Boro account , or what I can afford. Then when renewals come around I can pay delta , softening the blow and have paid a good percentage off.

With various other incentives… ie buy 10 walk ups or whatever and qualify for early birds prices…

Am sure a load of other alternatives, little outside of the box thinking to entice people. Many people work away do a weekend only season ticket etc

It doesn’t actually. earlybird sales are down less than 5% compared with last year. So even if you attribute all of that to the price increase, it’s revenue neutral. But this time last year we were pretty much nailed onto the playoffs with a genuine belief we might get into the Premier League. I’d say you’d be delusional not to attribute most of the reduction to that. In fact, it’s considerably lower than I would’ve expected.

They're down 11% on last year.

We sold 17,000 this time.
We sold 19,000 last time.

Ok fine if that’s accurate. I still argue that more than half of that reduction is likely to be because we are not facing, even the remote prospect of playing in the Premier League next season, whereas some of us naïvely bought last year because we thought we might. If that’s the case, the argument still holds. But I accept that is speculative.

To be honest, I expected a 20% fall just for the team being **** so I’m surprised it’s as low as it is when you combine that with the price rise as well.

So let's say its 32 quid a match next season plus booking and we have 8 or 9 non televised matches. How many are people buying tickets for?
That depends whether you value being there in person. If you do, it’s still more or less the same equation. If you don’t, you can do them all on streaming anyway, if you’re prepared to “stretch” the law. So I don’t think it’s changed that much

I'm going to keep coming back to this but the current model is specifically designed to stop those people coming back.

And they did come back, this year, in the face of the biggest price increase in a decade, despite all disappearing when the team was awful under Strachan and Mowbray, even though we had a price freeze. The evidence is against you my friend.

As a friends wife said to me…

The increase , still gets you away from the wife and kids every other week, our with the lads from Lunch till you roll in.

And when you put it like that!!! I am all in

Yes, I was taking the 19k figure as fact. 17k is more disappointing. Willing to stand corrected if 17k is correct.

I do expect some fall off after a disappointing season regardless of price.
Too add to this, if the Club had frozen all the ST prices (as I would have done) sales would still have dropped, because we are likely to finish with around 63 points (12th), compared with 75 points and (4th). Last season in March, we were around 6/4 for promotion too i.e. 40% chance of promotion.
