The club also said he didn't push to leave, after he had left. hat's why I think that there could have been some form of release clause. I suspect the bargaining was that they didn't hit the release clause as a guarenteed payment, but instead offered us more as add-ons to take it beyond that. I mean it's rare that a sale is 50% guarenteed and 50% add-ons which is where we are at. Maybe if there was a release clause of 10-12m and Villa said they would offer that in the summer or 8, now and 8m next year.As for "We couldn't keep him"; I think that's a reflection of the foolishness of trying to keep a player who wants to leave. Yes, players have all the power, and yes, that stinks. However, it only harms the club if you try to resist that imbalance of power.
anyway, to rap it up, it's looking more and more like we will get the full 16m which would be our second biggest sale after Traore. It would likely be the biggest profit on a player that we signed then sold ever. We are a champo side and our players are not tested at prem level, which is where the big value comes in. The only players to move from the champ for £20m without actually playing in the prem first are Watkins, Bellingham. 15-18m is pretty much the top you will get unless its a world class talent like Bellingham. We need to get up, even for a year.
