Anyone think houchen will get back in?

All that you see from the Labour campaign is negativity towards Houchen, no positivity behind their own candidate.

The debate on TV was so easily won by Houchen, the other two could only criticise - not come up with anything substantial for the area.

What will likely happen this year is that there will be a Labour government with Houchen as mayor - I personally think this could be a good thing and has worked for Manchester and London in the cases of Burnham and Khan.
It's worked because of the quality of the two politicians you've mentioned.

What qualities do you see in Houchen that makes you think that way?

Maybe there were very local issues at play - like Save Eston Baths etc.
Even if there were local issues at play, there were in the past and people in Normanby never voted Conservative in significant numbers. My granny lived there for 30 years. It never was an affluent place but I would say now its poorer than in the 1970s and 80s, but seemed to have gone right wing.

Chris McEwan has to get people to believe the Labour Party wants to regenerate Teesside and Labour represents jobs, jobs, jobs. I do feel Teesside in some ways is a mirror of former industrial areas of Scotland. In those areas the Labour Party is not seen to have his heart in regeneration and there was quite a mass movement of left wing support to the SNP. I don't think that swing would happen tot he same degree on Teesside but there has been a significant amount. In some ways Teesside should be a landslide for Labour with its socio- economic profile.

Just listened to the bbc “mayor for Teesside”, what a terrible guy Houchen comes across as. I can see the Tory party fast tracking him up the chain and Boris 2.0 - very similar

Can’t see that happening with him being a Lord… (thank god)

He would have to resign his peerage and stand for election as an MP

Would he? Only if he wanted to face the scrutiny of the House of Commons, otherwise he could do what Cameron does at the moment.

Actually I don't think there is anything specifically prohibiting that, but I think it would be a hard sell these days.
