The unofficial "official" Boro v Hornets Match Thread

I thought for the majority of the game they were a lot better than us, doubt any of our players would get in their side,
we look a mid table team, a lot of wheeling and dealing needs to be done for us to challenge next season.
TBH Watford got what they deserved today. As mentioned elsewhere the looked to have more gears than us but in second half they probably thought they could just see the game out. We played better in second half and fully deserved the point.
Really poor game though.

we were 16th in the form table and they were 1st so I guess that makes it a decent result. I would like to see us play more entertaining in the last few games but really main thing now is next year, to decide who to keep and ifd we can get anyone decent in. A striker would be a start

But equally annoying is the rose coloured glasses brigade who think we are something like the 1970 Brazilian world cup team.
The beauty of the board is has a wide spectrum.
I never saw any of them on here today

Not sure I agree with the more gears comment. I know what was meant by it, the game was slow with no bite. If Watford had additional gears they would have used them.

My comment wasn't so much about our league position, but our quality on the ball and intent to attack.
In which case your comment is fair, based especially on our final ball (both in quantity and quality) and general efficiency with going forward.

I think with no pre-season to effectively assemble and plan, NW's priority was to shore up that defence from last time out (the first thing most experienced managers will do when inheriting a dire team), which by and large he has done, injuries aside of course.

Next season he WILL have pre-season and a back line (hopefully Bola, Fry, Hall and Dijksteel though behind them I'd be far happier with Betinelli put to work cleaning the Riverside bogs instead) to build on, a fresher McNair alongside Morsy in midfield parked in front and the chance aside from a decent keeper to work mainly on the attacking half of the side.

If he can do what he has done with many a side before given a proper prep time and a full window to work with, then with a bit of luck I'd see Top Six as highly achievable.

I’m sorry why do people write such ill informed rubbish? Only one team in the top 10 have conceded more goals. Frankly, not a great deal to shout about and not great improvement.

we do need better players in all areas of the park- keeper, defenders, midfield, wide players and strikers. There is a MASSIVE rebuilding job needed as players and stats prove it.

Come on Nosmo it's not that bad. There wasn't much between the 2 sides today and they are getting promoted....We are competing in every game just need fine tuning...I'm sure Warnock knows what we need đź‘Ť

Nobby to say we’ve improved defensively is clearly not true- I wish it was. Pointing out only one team in the top 10 have conceded more goals is relevant and pertinent - to ignore this is sheer folly.

The result today? Great. But it doesn’t mask the weaknesses we have. All I am doing is pointing out to have a real go next season there is a lot to look at - and more importantly, improve

Yeah fair enough Nosmo đź‘Ť

Hate Aiden McGeady, 1-1.

Irritating thing is that they wanted rid of him but couldn't find any takers.
He's now their best player.

With Fry 28 conceded in 32 games, less than a goal per game.
Without Fry 15 conceded in 8 games, almost 2 goals per game.

We HAVE improved, we've just had a lot of injuries to key players and not had the right squad players to come in and fix things.

Fry missed 20% of games, but also went off injured a couple of times and was semi fit for a couple of games
Dijksteel has missed 11 through injury and carried injury in about another 5-10 games
Bola missed 5 through injury
Grant Hall missed about 25 through injury
McNair has played has played 53 games for club and country, not rested a single league or international game and is running on empty.

If you pick our best back 4 Dijksteel-Hall-Fry-Bola they've started 3 games together all season.

If you look at individuals, Fry, Bola and Dijksteel have all improved and Hall when fit has been excellent. Keeper is a worry and will be addressed in the summer.

Morsy said there was nothing in it - just bad luck.
As a combative midfielder that's what he would say, but if you go into a tackle, both feet off the ground, studs showing and towards the opponent that is endangering an opponent and a red card. It's not like the McNair rescinded red card where he wasn't headed towards the player.

Are we the only team to have injuries? Of course not.
