The unofficial "official" Boro v Hornets Match Thread

Chicken with sun dried tomato soaked in dry sherry. With rice, onions, peppers, garlic, basil and some paella colouring (I am too cheap to use saffron). To be cooked and served on the terrace this evening. In honour of the Boro not losing.

Our English friends would call it a paella of sorts. Our Spanish friends would be offended if we did call it a paella.

A day off work.
A point from a team who played premier league last season and could be next.
My plan is to forget about the performance and think about the result.
I am going to enjoy the rest of today.
Hope you all do as well

It was our season in a nutshell, tight defensively for 95% of the game, but always a mini-mistake or bit of bad luck waiting to bite us. Trying to 1-0 and 0-0 every game is a dangerous game.

Attack-wise no focal point to build from, struggle to get midfield up quickly to join in with CF, poor quality in possession. But forwards are decent at the high press and cutting the pitch in half.

Midfield, missing a bit of control, drive, momentum with the ball.

Too many balls back to keeper, not enough confidence in ability in the middle.

Marks:
Betenelli 7 - noonee decent save, safe hands, no chance with goal
Fisher 7 - much better than his last performance
Hall 8 - excellent display bar one poor headed clearance
McNair 7 - solid and a great dead ball for goal
Bola 7 - solid, didn't get forward, poor clearance for their goal
Morsy 7 - decent start then injured by bad tackle
Howson 6 - bit sluggish today, but kept at it
Saville 6 - put effort in but didn't really get on the ball, although unlucky with a header
Kebano 6 - decent touch
Watmore 7 - loads of effort, ran the line and pull CBs wide
Spence 5 - poor

Coulson 5.5 - didn't get into the game
Bolasie 7 - great header and it gave him confidence on the ball
Akpom 6.5 - put the effort in and had a couple of decent dribbles

Will the Mackems beat The Posh?
How long is a piece of string?
Does a bear @@@@ in the woods?
Its not all over till its all over (y)

That goal will boost Yannick`s confidence.

It was an uninspiring game form both sides. Probably cancelled each other out a fair bit. Watford are a good side and they were not really better than us. Looked a bit slicker in possession but created no more than we did.

It wasn't a rubbish performance, but it was a rubbish game.
I thought for the majority of the game they were a lot better than us, doubt any of our players would get in their side,
we look a mid table team, a lot of wheeling and dealing needs to be done for us to challenge next season.

To be fair to Bolasie he’s been involved in a few goals now. Think he’s got 2 assists, also crossed a ball that led to an own goal, should of had an assist for Bola in the goal that never stood at Swansea and now he’s scored a goal. Fair play to him.
I dont think weve seen anything like the best from him.
The best is yet to come. (y)

The towels have dried on the line during the game (y)

Time is running out for Neil. He can't go on forever unfortunately.
He obviously knows what he wants and who he needs and I don't think he'll mess about.
We'll go into the off-season with a more determined plan than others.
Just need a bit of luck in who we get......about time we had a bit of good fortune with our signings

Absolutely sick of the negative comments, some posters revel in it. It's a disgrace tbh. Bet Negative Nosmo is extra gutted with Bolasie scoring..

Some of you need to have a long hard look at yourselves...
But equally annoying is the rose coloured glasses brigade who think we are something like the 1970 Brazilian world cup team.
The beauty of the board is has a wide spectrum.

They looked a bit better than us on the ball, but made no real chances, you would have to crediyt the defence with that, not withstanding a few bad clearances we contained them and did so comfortably for the most part.

There wasn't a lot in it and a draw was probably the right result.

agreed that it's an improvement on last year, but not enough for where we expect to be.
Then I'd wager that we should lower our expectations for this season. Granted we've flirted with the playoffs earlier which is why it has that air of disappointment, but all things considered we're not progressing too badly.

Given our shambolic campaign last season (where we looked at many times destined for the drop until Warnock came along) my own personal reasonable yet optimistic expectations for our finishing league position based on improvements for this season were;

Bare minimum acceptable - A top half finish of 12th or above.

Satisfied with - A top 10 finish.

Very pleased with - Top 8.

Absolutely over the moon with - Playoffs

Convinced that I'd somehow moved to a parallel universe, ie not a sniff - Autos.

Next season of course is a different kettle of fish and I'll adjust my expectations accordingly, taking into account our squad in August of course, after the end of this one.

Absolutely.

The power of reason is beyond some - but we love the club: players and Managers come and go like buses, but Boro persists (y)
