The end?

Nothing in the '36 hour announcement' to stop the defence of Ukraine by getting the invaders pushed back - they are still illegally in another country

It's just a pathetic attempt by Russia and Putin to tar the Ukrainians rightly defending themselves as "un-Christian" and lacking honour.

"Those evil Ukrainians are shooting us on Christmas, despite our generous and Christian offer of a truce".

The fact they're only shooting because they've been invaded will of course be ignored by the Russian media.

The fact it has absolutely **** all to do with religion will also be conveniently overlooked.

The latest Power Vertical podcast is a good listen with Russian opposition leader Vladimir Milov - lots about Putin and the difficulties he faces with different factions, why Medvedev has become such a hawk, historical parallels with Gorbachev and Russian/Ukrainian relations.

Whilst I’m fascinated by the updates we get from Borolad’s contact, often with info that comes to light later, the one part I do still struggle with is Putin being poisoned/incapacitated or similar - I believe he uses doubles, that’s not a stretch but I still can’t help but think he’s still the main man in Russia right now… always willing to be proven wrong though! Anyway, this podcast has a lot of interest regarding Putin so well worth a listen.

I think that most of the problems arise from the fact that, while he is sick, he still wields some power. Whether he was poisoned or not depends upon whether Naryshkin was telling the truth, though it's hard to imagine a reason for him making it up.

I find it hard to believe that Putin fields doubles for meetings with other heads of states.

There have been widespread rumours of Putin being ill for quite some time and hopefully they are true, though who knows what would follow….

I’ve long thought that much of what we read on this thread is wishful thinking.

I’ve mentioned before that one of the main reasons for my scepticism is the lack of the info being used to attack and divide the Kremlin and sow further discontent amongst the population, I can’t help thinking it would be all over the place if it was known by enough people. So my hunch is that he’s still in charge, but not without massive problems. Still greatly appreciate the updates and I’m not ITK so perfectly comfortable with being off the mark with my hunches!

Yes, I’ve said before I’m not sure a double would meet Xi etc, but I think photo ops and when out and about it would be quite normal for an authoritarian leader to have doubles.

The illness rumours have been around for years, here’s hoping it’s true but there’s so much information and misinformation out there it’s impossible for us to know for certain.

There’s certainly a lot of wishful thinking and conjecture on this thread, it’s only natural - even Borolad has informed us when his source is guessing or offering opinions, regardless there’s been some meaty stuff in there and they certainly know more than yer average punter and I’ve no reason at all to doubt that Borolad is being genuine. That said, a dose of scepticism is always healthy when getting stuff of social media.

The doubles are fact. And it is known that doubles have been used for meetings with heads of state. Lately I think this has been out of necessity. Intelligence services can tell, largely by the use of AI, but often the key being identifying behaviours AND the people around the "Putin". Real Putin always has the same coterie of guards. But, as I have said before, nothing wrong with scepticism.

I also feel Borolad is genuine and believes in the information he is putting forward.

My sense is that the source is very well informed in relation to what is going on in Ukraine and he provides some very detailed insights.

It is the broader, more speculative stuff which I sometimes find less credible and not uncommonly proves to be wide of the mark.

Great thread though.

Putin being terminally ill is being reported in some of the mainstream media now - not that they're always reliable.

It was on the Mirrors new site yesterday, quoting Ukraine intelligence. Of course there's always room for propaganda and disinformation.

I'm inclined to think this part is all true. Doubles and all.

The mainstream media were reporting that Putin was ill earlier this year.

Well indeed, you have to bear in mind also that the intended audience is a small group of friends and colleagues and that his projections of what may happen are just his, well informed, speculation. So the more specific he gets, ie. 24th of December, the greater the risk that he will be wrong. But on the broader trend, he was predicting the general trend in the conflict very early on ... as well as giving us (paraphrased by me at that stage) details of battles that key Russian regiments has already lost. Because most of it is based upon numbers (troops, tanks, artillery, missiles) both available and destroyed/captured, the general thrust of momentum will usually turn out to be as he predicts (Kherson/Kharkiv etc). Obviously, the info that he gets directly from his friend on the front line will have a Ukrainian POV. But, even with intelligence reports, as he said a few weeks ago, reading them is a bit like reading Twitter ... most of it is rubbish, and you have to sift through and cross check info in order to find the actual picture (which is what his job actually is .... to do that and present it to the power brokers he works for). So it is interpretive and he will repeatedly tell you that he gets it wrong on specifics some times.

Unfortunately I had to delete or edit out some of the stuff he sends me, like the detailed explanations of how they got to know that Putin had been poisoned and how the got to know about specific medical operations he had been been through as well as what medication he had been on (colossal amounts of iodine) ... a) because it revealed too much secret stuff b) because it was bordering on the ridiculous, in a James Bond plot sense.

Yes, the speculative stuff is to be regarded with a bit more caution, but agreed, it’s a great thread, if I ever bump into Borolad I’ll happily buy him a pint! Although I do hope this thread isn’t needed much longer!

Putin’s illness has been talked about for years. More recently, I think the Ukrainian’s pushed it heavily for their own propaganda purposes but the truth is elusive.

I think one example of something that supports the doubles theory, is Putin's command of his personal space. He was typically rarely seen in crowds or being in physical contact with people.

The doubles come into operation and that all changes.

Regardless of his health, it’s a murky existence where a political leader sends out lookalikes to represent him, on so many levels that is unacceptable.

Amen to that. I am generally of a pacifist persuasion and I do find myself overwhelmed by the horros of war, and this one in particular. I was saying to my friend that I feel extremely squeamish about the fate of all those conscripts, many of whom will either freeze to death next week or will be blown up, when really they should be at home with their families. He agreed but just said "Unfortunately, it's necessary". The thrust being, the sooner that there are decisive defeats the sooner the killing can stop.
