Is Ingleby Barwick a 'town'?

It's in the centre, literally, with a parade of shops, pub, library, 2 gyms, a supermarket and an area where they hold events (market, fun day etc) It has a town council with its own budget and its own ward councillors, Thornaby has its own of both.

Within Ingleby each area has its own name and usually its own set of shops etc, then that is right at the centre

Fair enough. Yeah I remember Beckfield having its own area, and Sober Hall etc.

Plenty. I've lived in the likes of Nunthorpe and Coulby Newham. Both are deemed relatively decent parts of Boro. I would prefer to live Ingleby.
having grown up in nunthorpe, I think it's fairly similar but with more modern housing in Ingleby

Nunthorpe hardly has any shops for a place of its size, we always went to Coulby. Growing up you got pizzas from Marton or a Chinese and that was it but a bit more choice now. No real pubs except on the outskirts

My dad still lives there and his house is nice and most his neighbours are great but many houses I see come up on Rightmove are in need of a lot of updating, en suites are less common for example unless the house has been modernised. When we moved In back in 86 we had a seperate toilet room upstairs, literally just a bog with bathroom next door, we knocked it through but just shows the different sort of mind sets at the time of building, I do like the place though. again easy routes into the countryside, fairly low crime but but further to go for proper shops and bars, if you live nearer over the senior school way you've got a fair way to go for a proper pub, sammy smith's and micro pubs don't really count

All the Towns in the SBC area are decent for very different reasons.

Norton has a brilliant high street with excellent places to eat and drink. Yarm similar. Stockton the biggest and the one with great venues, and more pubs. The high street will be quality once the changes are made.

Billingham for the Sunderland fans. Thornaby for learning to drive. IB for good modern homes.

I live there and I’ve never noticed that sign before.
I never even recognised the “centre” as a centre.

I live 2 mins walk from the leisure centre n all

For me it’s just a housing estate, not a town or anything. Just houses.

Again I don’t mean to offend…. Just my opinion

Has it got an Aldi?
An Aldi in Fornaby and another near Jubilee at top end of yarm, so both close enough ! An Asda on the back lane , a Tesco in the middle , spoilt for choice !
A river walk , cycle paths , golf course , 6 pubs in walking distance and a 3 micropubs , 3 restaurants, it's got the lot.

Thats fine, you're entitled to it & I am certainly not offended by it - but its an opinion at the end of the day. Away from opinions, the fact is it is a town, its recognised by a town by SBC, it has its own town council, its own town council budget etc, and the centre was always planned in even from the initial town plan.

People can think what they like about it but it is, in fact, a town. If it wasn't a town, the next settlement size in the UK would would have to be a village - it isn't a village. The individual areas of ingleby are known as villages, but quite clearly arent. It's a housing estate many say - but is it? A housing estate is a strange made up construct. Every town is basically a housing estate. New housing estates are built all the time but generally fall into a town and become adopted by that town once they transition into council control, for example the rings developments are current new housing estates in Ingleby, theyre still in ingleby though.

Except Ingleby wasn't all built at the same time, it's been getting built for decades and it's still got houses being built- just like most other towns, and certainly not all planned at the same time. They've all been built by different builders, different landowners etc.

It shares a post code with thornaby, and part of it was built on the old edges of Thornaby, but it definitely isn't in Thornaby any more than Nunthorpe is in Marton or hemlington is in coulby newham. marton, nunthorpe and ormesby all share TS7 - I wouldnt really put ormesby and marton together. TS16 Yarm & Hutton rudby? its 6 miles away!
