McNair

We've got to offer him a new deal in my opinion, he's so underrated.

I think he's generally performed well under Carrick and is suited to the way Carrick wants us to play.

I'd actually look to sell Fry in the summer and then I'd be happy for us to have McNair, VDB, Clarke and Lenihan as our CB options.

I assume with our form in the last few seasons regarding final year player sales to get a return on our investment, we have, and we're nowhere near his demands.

He's one of our highest earners still, I believe around the £22k-£26k a week according to some snippets I'd seen.

He's decent, a good pro and versatile. He's only worth about half of that salary (to us) as a squad player IMO (unless we're going to stick with three CB's). A relegated or promoted side would likely offer him a much higher salary on a free. I assume both us and McNair are holding out till the end of the season, McNair for a better pay day, and us for a bit of a bargain if nobody ends up signing him.

I would see who comes in for him? Then if they do, see if we can better it?
He was really good again today and since he has come back into the team, we have stopped conceding as many.
I'd imagine he's one of our highest earners. Might be worth offering him a contract extension with the same wage, although I can understand he will probably want to weigh up his options.

If clubs come in and offer him a higher wage than what he's currently on here, then I can't see the club attempting to better it.

A big but , but ... If we stuck with 3 at the back.. howson could be useful for emergency cover next year in the 'step out of the 3 '
Yeah, I'd also add that Smith and Engel could probably cover the two outer ones with a more traditional CB in the centre.

Bangura seems a natural wing-back as does Jones, but I'd really want similar covering players if we're sticking with it as our formation.

I do think we'll sign a couple of full backs and a DCM though and revert to MC's favoured formation again in the summer.

And a left winger who like the touchline , has pace and defensive work .

He has been good since coming back in, but he always has a monumental fluff up in him especially when he let's the ball roll across him to his right foot.

I think a lot of CB's at this level will have a fluff up in them. I'm not saying McNair is top class but he's a good player at this level and suits our way of playing under Carrick.

I feel we could do a lot worse, and yes we could do better, but to guarantee it we're probably going to have to spend a decent amount of money. You're not always going to be able to pull a rabbit out of the hat and sign a VDB for peanuts.

I'd prefer for us to keep McNair and for us to use the money in improving other areas.

Plays well in a 3 but not quite good enough in a 2.

It all depends on wages he was signed on massive wages back in the day. And when fry and Lenihan are back he’ll arguably be 4th or 5th choice. Even a reduced 12-15k is more than we should pay for a reserve

I think he can perform in a 2. Let's not forget Carrick was favouring him above Fry last season, and he started a lot of games alongside Lenihan when we were in good form.
