Giles going to applaud the Boro fans afterwards

It's well known and was said on radio Tees he gave his word on signing for us. We missed out on targets due to this assurance and at the last minute changed his mind. So I think I'm right in saying he did do something wrong.
If he's getting praised for clapping the fans it should also be pointed out what he did.
If we wanted him that badly and knew he was ready to sign, we should have got the deal done early instead of leaving it until the last minute like we always do. It could have been negotiated within days of us going out of the playoffs. You can’t blame the lad for changing his mind when Premier league wages and opportunity came along.

Giles limitations are well known and are not going to be removed with experience. Hes a decent championship player at best and would have to be immediately replaced on promotion. I certainly wouldn't go back for him. Archer is another as good as he was for us we would have to pay a fortune for him to return and i am not sure he would deliver. Chuba is different if we could spend 10m and get him back i would do it in a heartbeat. The guy was sheer class and whilst he might not have such a, prolific scoring season again he would still rip up this league for us
Giles going forward, O’Brien linking up and covering. Ideal. Better than what we saw tonight. (y)

These are the facts. Coming over and clapping our fans doesn't change anything. As far as I'm concerned, any player who doesn't play for the Boro is the enemy - let alone under circumstances like these.

It was us vs Luton. He chose us over them, gave assurances and then they increased their wage offer and he changed his mind. That was the narrative I believe Drury reported on Tees. So his word vs a bit of extra money. People more than ever seem to think going back on your word is a normal thing when money is involved.

As for being good enough for the Premier league who in our squad is? Potentially Hackney and Rav, that's it. I know one thing, while Giles is a poor defender he's no worse then Engel and he's far better going forward then he is.

Whilst his assist tally was obviously brilliant, he cost us so many goals at the other end. I was happy to see him not come back and shocked Luton were stupid enough to take him. It has been no surprise to see him struggle, costing Luton goal after goal every time he managed to get on the pitch.

I’d much rather have a fit Bangura, if it exists, and I’d have been gutted if we spent £5m on him.

Do you have a link that shows that? Not saying it didn't happen, but I don't recall that particular story.

The lad jumped at the chance to play in the Premiership.
His departure didnt affect our other signings, we werent just relying on him to sign up with us. Does anyone seriously believe Carrick and his staff are that naieve?
Good luck to him.
He was great to have as part of the side for that season, but right now I`d sooner have Ayling and a fit Clarkie.

Why would we sign Giles? I don't understand the thinking.

Defensively he is worse than Engel, by a long way. He doesn't pass the ball blindly but even considering that, Giles has some if the worst starts, defensively, in the championship.

He is a better crosser of the ball than engel but he wouldn't have archer and Akpom to aim for. They made Giles look better than he was.

All that said, anyone criticising him for choosing prem wages over champ wages is insane. Nobody turns down a doubling of their salary.

I wonder if Carrick would consider having him back after he sh it on us. He's got what he deserved in terms of being bombed out by Luton and maybe we could get him for a couple of million and get him back to the player he was.
He’ll be on a 3 year deal though at Luton on god knows how much per week 60/80 k a week
Hull have obviously gambled on him and are paying a big chunk of his wages but Giles has done what’s best for him financially and that’s what is ruining the game in this country.
Talent sits on a bench somewhere because their financial future is taken care of. End of.

No chance giles would be on that much at luton. Probably not even half that

Well, let’s suppose Giles is on 30k a week which is entirely possible and reasonable - we would only be offering something like 15k a week tops you’d think ?
Hence little chance of attracting players like this until their contract expires

I’ll file alongside Viduka’s insurance payout for now.
Around 41:20 on this Twelth Man Podcast, KS speaks about the Giles situation.

He eludes to the fact it was mainly linked to Money / Rob Edwards who worked with Giles previously.

How those timelines worked out, who knows. I imagine the club probably had a deal in principle sorted and Luton offered him a better package. That’s football for you.

I’m not overly disappointed that he didn’t end signing to be honest.

Very good listen for anybody who hasn’t listened to this yet.

I don't recall this either, or anyone mentioning it in here before.

File along side "Gibson promised us we'd smash the league".

I believe from posts on here at the time that Mark Drury had said it on one of his midweek shows on BBC Tees.

The only Giles talk I’ve heard from the club is on that podcast in the post above from KS. Which doesn’t confirm or deny it. People can jump to their own conclusions of course.
