Greenwood and Silvera

Both young, both learning, both frustrating, both got the odd great moment but not really enough for where we want to be. In an ideal world Rogers would have stayed, played number 10 and Azaz would have been on the left and those two wouldn’t have played so many games

Silvera is absolutely useless.
Why make out he has anything to offer?

All of your posts suggest if you were in charge of transfers, you'd have a great starting 11.... but no squad players, which doesn't work in this division, as we've seen throughout this season with injuries.

Silvera, although I agree not good enough for our starting 11, is definitely good enough for our squad of 25.

But he’s not is he. I’m sure you’ve been following the boro long enough to know a really useless player. He’s inconsistent and has been more miss than hit this season, but there’s no denying he’s got asset to hurt teams and play at this level.

He’s part of the squad, it’s his first season and he’s adapting to a lot of change. I’m not sure how many examples people have to see in recent seasons of players developing, to understand that players can improve.

Silvera might not, or he might, but he’s shown enough not to write him off.

For context, just off the top of my head I can think of some of our current squad who were often written off as useless immediately then proving people wrong: Howson, Tommy Smith, Hackney, Ayling,

Not saying that either of these players will get to this level, but Hamer didn't pull up any trees first season at Cov. Last year I thought he was the best player in the division (even better than Gyokores). Both Greenwood and Silvera have, due to injuries, played far more than would have been expected and I imagine far more than Carrick would have liked. But both have potential. Agree that Silvera could benefit from a League One loan next year. Greenwood is good enough to remain in the squad if we can afford his wages.
Everyone seems to be forgetting that footballers develop at different rates.

Some peak in their early twenties, most in their late twenties, increasingly top players are effective till their mid thirties.

There are many players that looked "not up to it" in their first games in the championship and then improved/something clicked.

See England captain Harry Kane and his being **** in his loan spell.

Aaron connolly with us vs Hull.

Chris Brunt having a great championship career after having to drop down to league 1.

3 very different examples of players initially not seeming up to it then getting better with age/experience/development.

Where have I said we don’t need a squad?
We need a first team with more quality and adequate cover provided by younger players and a few experienced journeymen.
Silvera has no quality, experience or potential.
Stop pretending he has offered any encouragement at all, he is useless.
Our squad has been padded with too much rubbish this season.

I can see why Leeds played Greenwood as a central midfielder. He doesn't have the pace or trickery to play wide, same up front but I've been surprised by his work rate (despite people saying he's lazy) and could see him doing a better job in there. Both him and Silvera have the same problem which is running down blind alleys and turning into trouble before giving the ball away cheaply.

I think Silvera needs a 3 month loan at the start of the season at Plymouth to see what he can do. Greenwood back to Leeds as he's gonna be too expensive for a squad player.

The thing with Greenwood (well one of the things) and Silvera to a lesser extent is why do people think they won't continue to improve?

If Greenwood played every minute this season he'd have around 10 goals and 6 assists (based on his per minutes output). That's not bad for an attacking midfielder in his first full season. Why couldn't he kick on from that next year?

Really i thought connolly is having another poor season with hull he looked even more overweight the other day than he did with us

Both aren't good enough to be regular starters. Greenwood you feel has more ability but less heart - if having a bad game he is a passenger. Silvera does a job in this league but way too inconsistent.

Think we could replace with better.

Apart from the occasional flash both not good enough, especially in their general play (short passes, tracking back, tackling)
Greenwood especially disappears to the extent you don’t know he’s playing.
Silvera has cost us quite a few points on late easy missed chances aswell….

He really isn’t useless. No matter how much you say it on this thread but feel free to repeat it again. His goal contributions alone this season effectively negate that throw away comment. I’d give him preseason bedding in with his new colleges (there will be a few) and see how he goes next season before considering offloading. There have been a number of players written off by fans in the past who’ve gone on to good things.
