Don't think that is true - it is not beyond repair and if there was a real will we could bring in funding. It could be saved and surely it needs to be saved - it is a massive part of our identity.Might be too late for that and if not sounds like it would be a money pit to save and operate it.
It's a shame it was not treated as the icon it is but on the other hand reflects accurately the decay of the old industries that caused it to be built in the first place.
