I might be shot down in flames for this but no it's not time to change his sexual orientation or gender. Part of the love affair with Bond was his ability to seduce the opposite sex. I am sure a Bond guy will appeal to some but not to everyone.

Bond and 007 don’t have to be the same thing. It just so happens that Ian Fleming wrote about a character called James Bond that was assigned secret agar to code name 007.
A new film purely based on the 007 code name could be assigned to anyone, say if Bond retires.

Do they not? I thought when bond goes 007 goes, the same with Trevelyan as 006 etc?

I don’t think any of the numbers have doubled up for different people in the books, or the same for the films etc, have they?

OK this may be a whoosh moment but I'll ask the question anyway.

How can you have an opinion that the films are overrated if you can't remember the last time you watched one?

That's probably a fair point. I have watched Bond previously but never really been a massive fan.

If you like the Bourne films, the Daniel Craig Bond films should be much more to your taste than earlier Bond films. The first Bourne film in particular forced a change in the way Bond is portrayed. He’s not just a machine fighting ridiculous villains with bases on the moon. There are physical and psychological consequences to his actions and the story is far better for it.

That's good info. I think I'll give Bond a go again!

The problem with a black actor or a woman (or any combination thereof) is access.

The point of Bond is that he can infiltrate just about anywhere in the starkest example of "white privilege" there is.

To change Bond's 'provenance' would just mean it isn't Bond.

If they rebrand it to 007 then it just becomes another cookie-cutter franchise (where it's been perilously close a few times) and will end up being a movie version of Spooks (but not THE movie version of Spooks).

I'd actually like to see them reboot and remake the books as set of period thrillers.
