1934/35 league ladders

Really interesting,Grimsby in the 1st Division and Gateshead in the 4th, didn't realise Gateshead had ever been in top flight football or that Grimsby had played at the highest level...shows what I know

Use to love them. Mind after about 3-4 weeks I got sick of doing them and packed in! It was always interesting to see how positions compared at the end of the season. Ah, happy days.

I even had these in the early 90s. The internet has a lot to answer for.
In the 60’s I would get the Shoot magazines (Div 1 & 2 in one week and Div 3 & 4 in the next) and would religiously update them every Saturday night from the Sports Gazette. I had them hanging on my side of the bedroom wall under my Boro programmes and latest John Hickton posters.

None o this hanging about until Monday for all the games to be finished. 😜

Gateshead were up there for another quarter of a century after that. Voted out in 1960.

Two Bradford teams back then as well.

Grimsby were Boro's rivals for promotion a couple of times and were in the top flight until after the Second World War. Probably the most incredible result was a 7-4 away from home in 1927 when it 'might have been 14'! The match report read:
"Grimsby people will never forget this match and the feast of wonderful football this visiting attached provided in the mud."1690361913986.png

Gateshead only applied for reelection once and got booted out. Newcastle voted against them staying in the league - Geordie barstewards

Check out G-Town!

New Brighton in there too......what ever happened to them? Not even heard them mentioned in non-league circles these days.

Hartlepools - because Hartlepool is split geographically - maybe someone can explain the different parts of Hartlepool.

I know in rugby there was West Hartlepool and Hartlepool Rovers.

The modern town represents a joining of "Old Hartlepool", locally known as the "Headland", and West Hartlepool. What was West Hartlepool became the larger town and both were formally unified in 1967.
