3 Best/most exciting non-boro players you've seen at the riverside

Thomas Graveson was outstanding in a game for Everton. You could see why Real Madrid moved for him, even if it didn't work out for him.

Honourable mention to Xabi Alonso (even if he did score an own goal in one game). Talk about making the game look ridiculously easy.

This might controversial but I’m going to add tino asprilla name into the mix as he’d literally just stepped off the plane before the game and it was clear he had no idea what Newcastle’s game plan was so he just did his own thing.

That's the guy, Douala. The question is only asking the best or most exciting at the Riverside it's not asking about his whole career though. I agree we probably did catch him on a good night, but what a night it was. I even enjoyed the return match in Lisbon, even though we lost.

Agreed, he was eye-catching that night.

Was going to say Chris waddle but that was at Ayresome. Scholes is a great shout outstanding with the ball at his feet we couldn't get near him before the ball was pinged to a teammate. Funny enough i cant remember Bergkamp playing that well agaisnt us but henry was always class.

Aye, he turned the game for them that day, eye watering.

If we can have just one more allowed for Ayresome... Noel Brotherston.
27th November 1982.
Those very few of us who were there will remember.
Never seen one player be so utterly imperious. He single handedly destroyed us. He could have played on his own and we'd still have lost 5-1.

Scholes
Veron
Doula

Surprised there's not more players featured in the 2 seasons we were in the UEFA Cup performance, I'd like to think it's because we faired up against most teams well in both campaigns.

Yeah was thinking that. Roma probably most likely candidate but the likes of De Rossi and Totti didn't play. Which was probably good in terms of the result, but bit disappointed not to see Totti play in person.

De Rossi played in the return leg and I thought Mancini (Brazilian version) was absolutely quality. But of course that wasn't at the Riverside.

Yeah that Mancini (good shout) and old fashioned inside left was pretty good, espeally at their place.

Partizan Belgrade played very well against us, but can anyone remember any names?

Henry
Scholes

Maybe not the best overall performance but Kanu's goal in 1999 always stands out as one of best goals scored against us at the Riverside that I saw.

Also for some reason remember Harry Kewell looking a class above everyone for Leeds at the Riverside

Mancini was quality for Roma. Imagine how good he could've been had our pitch not resembled a farmers field that night ....

De Rossi was outstanding in the olimpico wasnt he and we did get to see totti albeit stood by the dug put as a fan

Some great calls on this thread. The one about Son for definite too. I thought exactly the same that day - he's much better than I thought and the PL has changed a lot in ten years!

The Arsenal team of the 90's and early to mid-00's often gave Boro a hiding, so they had some wonderful performances. Vieira, Henry, Bergkamp, Overmars, Kanu the list goes.

Ryan Giggs often did well even though Man United suffered a few defeats at the Riverside.

It won't be popular but Alan Shearer always seemed to do well against us at the Riverside too.
