3 clubs under transfer embargo

Derby, Hull and Reading can't sign players except free transfers and loans but only if they have less than 23 professional players.

So that knackers Hull. Reading and Derby have very small squads after releasing players so can sign players but I guess will need Football League sign off on them.

Reading really went for broke last season didn't they. Reckless.

"The Rams have been punished for failure to provide audited annual accounts, not filing annual accounts with Companies House, default in payments to the HMRC, default in paying transfer fee instalments and non-submission of audited accounts relating to the league's profit and sustainability rules.

Reading have also breached profit and sustainability rules, while Hull's embargo is due to 'conditions under a monitored loan agreement'."

No idea what 'monitored loan agreement' means, does it mean teh FA have issues over who the loan is from? One of the directors maybe?

Sheffield Wednesday latest accounts reveal £23m loss

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY'S latest accounts for 2019-20 has shown that the club lost £23m in the last financial year ending July 31, 2020 - following player sales.

The latest deficit has taken the Owls' accumulated losses to £99m, figures have revealed.

The accounts also revealed that the club's wage bill fell by almost £3m to just over £33.5m from a previous figure of £36.3m, with a significant drop in player wages likely to arrive in the next two sets of accounts when the departures of the past two summers are factored in.

Turnover fell from £22.76m to £20.86m - a fall of £1.9m - chiefly due to the fact that five home games last season were played behind closed doors.

The club showed a profit on the disposal of players/employees of £6.2m.

The overall figures follow a profit of £19.1m in the club's accounts for the year ending July 31, 2019 when the club included the controversial sale and leaseback of Hillsborough in those particular accounts.

The club remain in talks with the English Football League over the lifting of the club's transfer embargo which is currently in place and they remain hopeful that the ban will be removed later this week.

Is it £39 mill loss over a 3 year period. So unless Sheff Wed lost about 8mill a year in the previous 2 seasons they'll fail FFP? Could be a fire sale to ensure they don't hamper themselves further. Probably not the best time to need to raise transfer cash.

£19 million profit for 18/19 with dodgy stadium sale.
£23 million loss for 19/20 after losing 5 home games revenue due to Covid (so a £ 4million loss after the profit)
£?? million loss for 20/21 after no fans for the season you would have to assume is as big a loss.

But it would have to be more than a £35 million loss to get to £39 million loss over three seasons?

🤷‍♂️

Has the dodgy stadium sale been allowed to stand, or will it require resubmitting like Derby, I mean if they were found guilty then surely it can't remain on the calculations?

Think both of their dodgy stadium deals have been allowed to stand as it was a loophole at the time. Now closed.

Further rules:

During a Transfer Window

Clubs can ‘staff up’:
- so they have 23 players of Professional Standing within their squad.
- to ensure the integrity of the competitions remain and so that Clubs are able to fulfil their fixtures.
- by signing players on loan or players not registered with another Club
- cannot pay fees to acquire loan players and cannot pay additional wages on top of the salary the player receives at their parent Club
Clubs
- only register players until the end of the current Season, whilst loan transfers can only be for half a season
- Budget restrictions apply dependent upon the divisional status of the Club under embargo

So they can sign free transfers for 1 year, on lower wages while not breaking current budgets (ie they will be getting assessed for FFP in real time as they try and sign a player)

They can loan players for only 6 months, but cannot support the wages or pay a fee. Which means they won't get their hands on any decent top flight loan players. In fact there will be very few players prepared to do this without any benefit.

Different rules outside of transfer window:

Outside of a Transfer Window

Outside of a transfer window, Clubs can only register Out of Registration players (free agents) and Clubs can only register Out of Registration players if they have less than 16 players of Professional Standing (2x Goalkeepers, 14x Outfield Players)

In line with Regulation 57, Clubs can register an Emergency Goalkeeper Loan if they don’t have any Professional Goalkeepers available due to injuries, suspensions or international call-ups.

FOUR clubs now under embargo as Cardiff have failed to pay transfer fee payments for players they purchased in recent years.

At least they can't gazump us on any signings for the foreseeable.

we want more
we want more
we want more

Be handy if every other club in the division had transfer embargos!

Just about every club in championship (apart from 3 relegated Prem teams) will be under pretty much the same restrictions anyway due to lack of funds.
