40% of the season done, where will we finish?

How will the season end for Boro?

Same here. My gut reaction was lose in the play-offs (again), but then I let my heart rule my head and went for promoted!

Surprised to see “finishing outside of playoffs” is most voted for.

We're not great defensively this season and we're lacking a proper goalscorer.

That and the fact the division has far stronger teams than last season makes me think that the more likely outcome is that we just miss out.
A bad start has hamstrung us, despite a largely excellent run of results since that awful Sheff Wed match.
We'll need a similar run to last season to get there.

If we pull something impressive out of the bag in January, you never know.

I honestly have no idea because this side is capable of winning against the best teams in this league one week and getting beat by a very average side the next. We do have a very good manager i think, and the core of a good side, but I don’t see him being able to get this squad up - the three teams that came down just have more quality and more strength in depth than us, which will be the difference come May I’m guessing.

If you take our season as a whole, then our form would suggest just outside the play offs.....but if you take the first few games away when we were adjusting to a lot of changes then our form is won 8 out of the last 11, which is automatic promotion form.
If we continue to play as we have since after the Sheff Wed game, I think we'll finish 4th or 5th.

I’ve got to agree.

Hope we’re right too

The funny thing is, just on home games, we have the 2nd best defensive record in the league.

We just concede an absolute hatful away from home, the 3rd worst in the league.

But we won’t - we simply don’t have the quality or strength in depth to keep winning that percentage of games. We also have to play Leeds twice, Ipswich twice, Hull twice (my tip as this seasons dark horses), travel to Leicester and Southampton, along with facing West Brom and Blackburn at The Riverside. That is a lot of very tough games

When you consider the start we have had and the amount of injuries we have had I think we are doing very well, but I think we need to get a few players back sooner rather than later or a couple of strong signings in January, if so think we will make the play offs and have a good chance of promotion

I fancy our chances, striker and RB to come in Jan.

Quality in goal, defence and midfield. LL and Coburn to make continuous improvements as the season progresses.

Icing on the cake - 3 behind the striker!!

Jones, Crooks, Rogers, Greenwood and McGree to come back!! Wow!!

The evidence of the last two months is that we do have strength in depth. Despite a horrendous run of injuries, we’ve beaten Southampton, Norwich and Watford, plus 5 teams who were in the top 6 when we played them, including the best team in the league. We‘ve already shown we have strength in depth.

I don’t think we will carry on picking up points at the rate we have in the last 11, that’s why I reckon 5th or so, but we’ve definitely shown we’re good enough to compete for the top six already.

We've done better against the top sides than we have against the bottom though. We shouldn't have anything to fear from those games and have continued to pick up points despite our injuries.

Currently we are odds against to make the top 6, so based on that we are going to finish 7th or 8th. Up from my pre-season 10th.

We are certainly playing better than in August, like last season, we seem to be improving as the season progresses. If it wasn't for recent injuries to key players, I think we would have been top 6 by now.

I said we would finish 7th at the start of the season and I’m sticking to it.

Reverse psychology going on though….every time I’ve predicted playoffs or promotion before, I’ve been incorrect.

I personally think we will just miss out on play offs this year.

Finishing around 8th perhaps?

I think this group are just a little too inconsistent at the moment. I think this season will bode well for next year, and another summer of recruitment could result in cementing a play off spot next season.

Overall I think its a bit of a learning curve season for a lot of the squad that will pay off next year. I actually think if we finish around 8th it will be slightly overachieving and should be seen as a good season.
