When our dad took me & my younger brother to Newcastle to see the mighty Boro & our 1st top flight game away to Newcastle since 26th December 1953

As soon as the Boro came on to the pitch & us Boro fans cheering trouble started with Newcastle buying tickets outside the ground for our end

Me & my brother got seperated from our dad when a few Newcastle fans were asking me & my brother if we'd want to swop scarves, back then they would beat up the opposing fans & knick their scarf, lucky for us, these must have been posh Geordies ;)

John Hickton scored his 5th 1st divison goal, a scorcher too with our end erupting when, IIRC, we took the lead, future Boro star Micky Burns got one of their goals before McDonlad scored the winner :( we lost the game 2-1

With about 5 minutes of the game remaining & looking overe the wall the hundreds of Newcastle fans waiting outside for the match to finish when our dad eventually got hold of us both & said, right lads, lets get out of of here, as we went down the steps loads of Newcastle fans were running up looking for bother

Big Jacks team

Jim Platt
John Craggs
Frank Spraggon
Graeme Souness
Stuey Boam
Willie Maddren
Bobby Murdoch
David Mills
John Hickton
Alan Foggon
Dave Armstrong

That was pre segregation days, you could go in wherever you wanted and pay at the turnstile wasn't it?

I remember going into the Fulwell End to watch us with my Mackem mates.

Think we needed a ticket to get in, we went down with 2 tickets, my dad bought a ticket outside the ground to get in

I only went to StJP once for the Boro's 4-2 win (MotM one John Craggs) .... managed to get through the afternoon without too much bother but had to move a few times. Not friendly iirc.

It was hairy when we went in 1975, been a few times since & not as much bother as that time

Boxing Day 1991 and the Paul Wilkinson run that I think he is still on now and a thousand 'Go Ooooonnn' coming from the away end, then absolute bedlam.

I went down without a ticket & bought with in the side paddock
That run from Wilko I kept telling myself to just cling on to the barrier tightly & not jump if he scores, I was screaming inside when the ball hit the net
