84 mins

Great result last night, with Akpom.. Hackney playing well..
My only gripe is how come it took 84mins to finally replace Mcgree, he should of been hooked at half time, constantly losing 50-50s, often running around like a headless chicken, he reminds me of a poor 5-a-side player, runs around demanding the ball, then loses it, and doesn't track back . I lost count how many times last night a move broke down, due to his lack of awareness or his ability to hold on to the ball and release to another player.... so so frustrating... so again why did he last 84mins on the pitch?

I thought he was rubbish last night. It was noticeable how many times he gave possession away or didn’t go for a tackle.

It was also very noticeable how annoyed he looked with himself as he came off, shaking his head and muttering to himself. We were 3-1 up at the time as well.

Realistically we didn’t have a left footer on the bench so that’s why he stayed on.

Because the manager, who knows much better than you, thought keeping him on the pitch until the 84th minute was the right thing to do in order to beat Hull.
So you're saying he played well last night? won his 50-50s, passed the ball well and controlled the midfield? because that's not what I seen last night..

The lad has had 3 regular starts in a new 442 formation brought in for Leo’s last game and Carrick’s first two. . He actually goes looking for and demands the ball - what a refreshing change that is from most players who hide away behind opposition players when we have possession. Give him 10 continuous games in a settled side playing 442 before we decide he is hopeless

Maybe trying Giles Left mid and put Bola left back might work, Giles cannot defend so it might make us more solid.

I thought he was far from rubbish. Despite some wayward passing and pulling out of a few tackles his running and work-rate were exactly what we needed.

Bola wasn't on the bench last night so that wasn't an option. McGree was only ever coming off for Crooks or Mowatt, that's why he was on until 84.
I'm saying trying Bola left back and Giles left mid for the next game (Bristol City)
Last night, if a player isn't performing, which Mcgree clearly wasn't, then change it, for one paced Mowatt or Crooks.

He is a bit lightweight and prone to be out muscled, but generally he has decent technical ability. I'm not entirely certain what his best position is and I'm not sure Wilder, Leo and now Carrick have ever got to the bottom of it yet either. Hopefully Carrick can crack the riddle as he is a good player with a decent work ethic.

I think Wilder had it with him playing as a 10, that's when he's looked his best whenever I've seen him. He was getting into good positions and finding more space.

Why do you think you know more than Carrick about football management, because you're effectively saying that with these statements that he was wrong to keep him on the pitch until he did ?

I think he suffers from being compared to Tav.

He is quite a different player though, more of an old style 'schemer'. Finding pockets of space and looking to play through balls or dribble a bit.

I like McGree but i don't know if we have strong enough players around him to make up his lack of physicality so he might be too much of luxury player for us ultimately.

If we had a Boateng or Kante type in the midfield then it would be OK, but every team would say that I suppose.

Thought he was poor last night, but didn't look comfortable in that MF position.

Missed tackles (Wilder would have publicly nailed him after the game if we lost .....😉), passing wasn't as good as it usually was. Give the ball away a few times. 5/10 performance.

We need to decide on his best position and stick him there. Decent player, didn't have the best of games. Really hoping he develops under Carrick, we shall see.

I thought he had an off game last night.

But

I think he is really important to the shape Carrick is playing.

His movement off the ball was great last night. Created space, gave an option, and moved their players out of a settled shape. He really never stops moving.

The third goal showed it: Chuba dropped deep, Mcgree moved inside pulling the full back with him, and then Giles had the space to move into.

I think he could be one of our best players if we continue to work on him in that role.
