A football related thread ..... but it is West Ham (urgh)

Not relating to the mighty boro however.... but bear with me....

After watching west ham last night it got me thinking, If you were David Moyes, what would you do this summer.

By all accounts he has a new contract offer sat on the table, and its up to him what to do.

West Ham got a good result last night, puts them in 8th, joint on points with Brighton in 7th.

Europa last 16 game against Freiburg coming up, .... and obviously pair that alongside the Europa Conference trophy last year.

However having said all of that, Moyes doesn't seem to get the lickings of a dog from the West Ham faithful.

If you are Moyes do you crack on (in my opinion doing a decent job, getting West Ham to exactly were they should be, if not overachieving a little bit) ... or do you think of it as a job well done, and tell the ungrateful bunch to stick the contract offer?

To the rest of football I think its general consensus that Moyes has done well at West Ham, after being pretty much in the wilderness with some poor tenures since Man United.

Now he has a bit of credibility bak in the bank does he have a look to see whats out there - potentially get some appreciation from a fan base, or stick it out and see if he can push West Ham into the top 7?

I am not particularly bothered about what happens to him. They would be daft to get rid of him given what he has achieved these last three seasons and I could understand him walking away if they don't.

I'd leave on a relative high if I was him.

The fans aren't ever going to get fully onside with him and it beats getting sacked and slightly tarnishing his achievements there.

Then, if I was Moyes, I'd be hoping they **** up the next appointment and he looks even better.

I don't think he's gonna get a better offer so if he's still enjoying it then he might as well stay.

From a financial perspective he'd be well advised to accept the new contract just for the potential pay off if they then decide to get rid.

I was thinking about this earlier today.

It's mad when you look at where they are and what they have achieved under him that they dont see him as some sort of messiah.

What more do their fans expect considering the strength of the teams above them?

They're sitting pretty in the league, are through to the knockout stages in Europe, won a European trophy last season and have some talented players in their squad all on the back of losing their best player in the summer.

If I was him id be doing as TeaCider has said above and be tempted to walk away and hope they crash and burn but that could be more to do with me not being able to stand West Ham.

it feels like a change might be best, for both parties. good for moyes, leaving while stock is high. good for whingy fans, I think they just want a change of footy style more than anything.

My son's best friend is a West Ham season ticket holder, he reckons Moyes is dithering on a new contract as he doesn't like having to deal with the Sporting and Technical Directors, he dealt with Gold and Sullivan previously.

The West Ham fans are deluded, harking back to the West Ham Way and how unattractive the current playing style is.

West ham are notoriously bad at recruiting in recent years, on and off the pitch.

Its a miracle they have had the success they have had over the last couple of years without having a recognised striker, and continuing to rely on Antonio

I love David Moyes. He totally destroyed the Mackems so he has a lot in the bank from me.
The west ham fans don't appear to like him so he should go where he thinks is best for him and his family .

Alternatively then, if Carrick was to leave in the summer (for whatever reason), Moyes also leaves West Ham, would you be happy with him taking over at Boro?

Oh I don't know about that . Getting Paquetta for one was a real coup and I do like Kudus as well. I think Ward Prowse has been a success this season too. Agree some of the others are a bit meh. Ings was past his best when they bought him.

You'd sign the contract (hopefully at an increased level of remuneration, due to his successes and inflation) then crack on next season and get sacked if the fans manage to kick up enough fuss, and then go on 18 months gardening leave?

No, probably not as I don't think he is necessarily the best type of manager to work with a load of young projects.

He also strikes me as an old school manager rather than a head coach.

I'd agree.

Despite thinking he has done well .... do the west ham fans have a point if we are not keen to have him at our level?

Anything less than winning the World Cup isn't good enough for West Ham.

Dintcha know?

Don't walk away Mr. Moyes, RUN!
