Aaron Danks joins Carrick's coaching staff

he was at Anderlecht for 8 weeks with Vincent Kompany - and he is a specialist defensive coach - interestingly he has done work with basketball coach, Stephen Curry in the USA.

i take it he fills the vacant 1st team coach slot, the 'ast managers job' is still vacant & waiting for Ooh René! when he returns with Roo McGree from the World Cup.
Is he a defensive coach? I admittedly know nothing much about him but had a look on wiki when I seen the announcement. Says - Lead Offensive Specialist Coach for various levels of the English national team.

I think he's more of a positional/tactics coach without being a coach specifically for one position (if that makes sense?) - he's coached one of the best basketball players in the world, so it must be a type of coaching that's not totally specific to football.

Could be wrong, but I suspect the basketball link up was probably more an exchange of knowledge/development type thing. Was apparently an FA initiative, I don't think it was Danks being brought in as a specialist.

We're probably overthinking this. He was assistant manager at Anderlecht and Villa. As is sometimes the case with Boro, things are a bit vague, not sure we're even going with an assistant manager. But if that's not his job title I reckon his role will be pretty similar.

Maybe Carrick as head coach and Woody and Danks as his deputies is the structure? I'm pretty sure he'll be involved in everything though. Going from assistant manager at a prem club to defensive/offensive specialist at a championship one would probably be seen as a backwards move, not sure he'd be here if that was the case.

Yeah im just interested as he seems to be described differently in every article I read about him. In possession coach, head tactical coach, personal coach, offensive coach. I mean they probably all mean more or less the same thing and it's just my ignorance showing, but 🤷‍♂️.

Good article shared on 1B yesterday.

Can't believe a football coach would be coaching Steph Curry, seems hard to believe. I'd love to know what the link up was all about.
