Adam Clayton released by Birmingham

Obviously not good enough for the first team and there's a reason we cut our losses during the pandemic, but he could do a job as a player-coach in our development squad.

Only fair we try and do right by former players who can offer something to the wider club, in my opinion.
I think we carried him for long enough. No more throwing wages away for sentimental reasons.

He was well rewarded for his time here, we owe him nothing.

God no. He was on big money at Boro and cruising through his final year / 18 months. He offers nothing other than the holding role and he wasn't good at that post Karanka and Leadbitter.

He is another attacking CM that Boro somehow turned into a defensive one (the worst being Bailey). I'm already seeing it with Crooks.

I believe Clayton was on big money at Brum and turned down opportunity's to leave in Aug or go on loan. The final straw for Bowyer who wanted shot after saying he wasn't in his plans.

Was Clayton really an attacking midfielder at Huddersfield before joining Boro?

Well he joined scoring 11 in 85 for Huddersfield. 1 in 214 for us..... Something happened😕. I mean his one goal is debatable as massively deflected.

He definitely joined with a reputation for having a decent long range strike on him.

There you go. I didn't realise that. I always thought he was a defensive player and would definitely not have him down as anything other.

I would have no problem with him coming back in some form - if he were the right person for the job

No probs. Also just read 6 in 45 at Leeds. I think he was a bit more box to box rather than 'attacking'.

It's weird that Karanka looked at him and thought 'he'd make a great holding CM'. Don't get me wrong he was very good at it for 2-3 years. Especially alongside Leadbitter.

Wed love 'that' Clayton (and Leadbitter) now. We had such a good spine with Ayala / Gibson and genuine match winners up top. Oh well 😂

They way we are with injuries would he come back till January? Not much risk to MFC, say £10k a week for 12 weeks?
