Aj does a fury

Was surprised to read that when I woke up today. The Wilder defeat to Parker has definitely screwed up the plans. But the WBC put Ngannou in its top 10 after he'd lost to Fury which is the biggest joke.

The only pleasing thing to me is that Joshua is not waiting 6 months to fight again but after criticising Fury for fighting Ngannou I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't criticise Joshua also.

It's presumably a warm up for the winner of Fury v Usyk?
Not a very good warm up. It won’t be a challenge for Joshua. He’s a powerful lad but obviously not a boxer, he just sat back and tried to counter punch Fury.

Fury made a meal of it but unless Joshua decides to make it go the distance I imagine he blasts him out fairly early on.

I agree, but with a potential chance to face the winner of Fury v Usyk, it's perhaps a sensible move. In HW boxing one punch cam change anything so why have a more dangerous warm up only for it all to go pear shaped?

Don't get me wrong I would prefer to see AJ fight Zhang, Hrgovic etc but I think he desperately wants his titles back and this is the safest route at the moment.

I think he beats the likes of Zhang and Hrgovic but it's much more dangerous than Ngannou.

I'm not so sure WeeGord. There'll likely be a rematch clause in the Fury / Usyk contract so the winner couldn't jeopardise that by fighting Joshua or Ngannou in the interim.

As it happens, I'm not convinced the Fury / Usyk will actually take place. Just a hunch.

I don't think it'll happen either, but if AJ beats Ngannou and Fury get stripped of his titles, then surely AJ would be at the front of the queue for the title fights?

I’m not sure Joshua would have much of an appetite for another fight with Usyk. A resurgent Parker or Zhang would of been better fights, but not as lucrative clearly

On the contrary, the second fight was much closer than the first and I think AJ has some of his self belief back.

I also think Dubois genuinely hurt Usyk and his weakness appears to be body shots. I think Joshua would definitely fancy himself in a third fight and let's be honest, if Fury is still being an eejit it's still the biggest fight out there for both of them.

These idiots have ruined boxing.
Nobody seems to be gunning for the Championship except Usyk.
The rest go for the money and pick fights to keep them going for as long as possible.

I blame Fury. He ducked AJ for years and has fought people that I think I would have a chance with.
Who the fu.ck keeps buying the PPVs, I will never know. If people stopped paying to watch showboating and exhibitions then we might actually get the fights that mean something.

Looks like it's confirmed.
A bit disappointed in this. I thought AJ had a good 2023. Was expecting to see him position himself to make another stab at a World title.

Obviously Fury/Usyk are unavailable for the foreseeable as they looks set to have 2 fights.

The Wilder plan is now a non-starter.

I suppose the Hrgovic fight is touted for late 2024 to fight for a potential vacant IBF title so this could be seen as a high yielding keep busy fight until that one can be made. If that fight has been made in the background like the rumours suggest, he has already positioned himself for a title shot and he won't want anything too risky.

The Wilder loss means that he is no longer a main player. AJ's options are therefore more limited than previously, and now he is going to have to wait and hope that:

1. The Usyk and Fury fight actually happens
and
2. That Fury wins
and
3 That Fury then wants to fight AJ

Until then, he is going to have to bide his time and take some more mediocre fights.

I think he'll fight Hrgovic for a World Title fight before he even thinks about Fury.

Zhang v Parker has just been announced on the undercard. Great fight that.
If Zhang looks as good against Parker as he did against Joyce then the big boys will have to start taking him seriously.

Whilst I agree to a point and would have liked him to face a Zhang or someone at that level, AJ has beat most of the contenders already (Wilder apart) this is a keep busy/money grab fight whilst he waits for Fury Usyk to play out.

I agree it’s a rubbish fight but I think Joshua has partly taken it as a way of calling out fury. If AJ beats up Ngannou in 2 rounds on the back of demolishing Wallin. Then it’s two demolition jobs on two boxers that caused fury all kinds of problems.
