All Covid restrictions to end.

The trends on hospitalisations and severe illness are certainly encouraging.
Omicron may just be the best thing that's happened in this pandemic (hopefully soon to be endemic).

I despise the man and this government so I am not supporting him in anyway but, there comes a point when we have to get back to normal and we are reaching that point. With omnicron came rise in infections, then a rise in hospitalisation and then a rise in deaths. When the deaths drop away substantially the current threat is over and we should live our lives normally again.

But this move just means that anyone who is still vulnerable to this and likely just starting to get their life back to normal will be back to almost lockdown conditions. How do those who are still likely to get ill go to work/go shopping etc knowing they are now likely to be mixing with someone who is positive? It just makes life impossible for them

If they are fully vaccinated then there is little else we can do. We can't all stay indoors for fear of being struck by lightening for example, especially if you are very tall and more prone for this to happen.

There comes a point when we have to move forward.

Having to isolate when you have covid is hardly comparable to us all having to stay indoors is it? its common sense to avoid the most vulnerable becoming seriously ill and filling up hospitals when they already have a significant backlog

I would understand if the science backed this up, but this is a move to save Johnson and nothing more

Oooops, apologies I read a wrong link! I agree that isolation should continue.

I also think that isolation should be mandatory for flu.
I wonder if we could move to a point where you could pick up something like lateral flow tests for flu.

My wife had the swine flu years ago and that really knocked her, yet people often have a day off sick with 'flu' which is just a heavy cold which needs a day of rest. Big difference and I wouldn't want to work next to someone carrying the flu.

A major issue for the post-covid workplace is sickness insurance for employers. If they don't cover it, then people will end up being heavily pressured to go to work and keep spreading bugs.

I think if someone actually had flu, and not just a heavy cold that’s often described as flu then the only option would be to stay home. Only had it once and I could barely get out of bed, it’s awful

I think the varying degrees of symptoms that we have have seen from people with the varying strains of covid means that isn't necessarily true about flu. Maybe flu is far more prevalent than we realise but cases with mild or no symptoms are just not reported, recorded or known. Not everyone that has flu has to be bedridden, especially if it's a strain you've been vaccinated against. There might be loads of people infected with flu that don't get bad symptoms but contribute to the spread.

I know personally that I have had 4 or 5 colds per year for most of my life but the people I live with don't always have identical symptoms. We all have different immune systems and react differently.

I have just said the same thing to my wife. If you have any communicable disease it would be reasonable for people to have to isolate until they recover. We're not used to that, but there is no reason why it shouldn't be the norm if you are feeling unwell.

We would need proper sick pay for those organizations that don't offer full pay when you are ill

To offer proper sick pay we need honest employees not looking to fake illness in order to stay home and watch cricket.

My employer does at discretion. They soon weedle out the ones who have the last friday of the month of with a tummy bug. Ultimately if you claim ssp when you are not ill it's fraud and can be dealt with.... oh hang on a minute
