Already excited for next season

In terms on the loanees, my priority list for keeping would be...

Steffen - suits the style perfectly, and I just like the bloke
Ramsey - we've only seen a cameo of what he might do, but keeping him is realistic
Giles - nice if we can keep him, but maybe next year will see more solidity at the back and more varied attacking threats, so maybe not as essential as we think. Especially if we keep Ramsey
Archer - would be #1, but I just don't think we've got a chance
Mowatt - squad player, easy come, easy go
Muniz - a bad fit, not needed. Shame, because he seems a good lad and can't fault his attitude

I don't think we wanted to get promoted. We took the foot of the gas a month ago and coasted a very reasonable league position. In reality how much would our loan players cost to buy ? £60 million ? That would have purchased a team that ended 4th in the league. We would need to spend twice that to get a bottom quartile premier league. Gibson just cannot compete on that financial stage any more. For me Gibson is more than happy to have a good champo side.

Here's the next cliche that gets wheeled out at the end of every season 😂

I’m very disappointed at the way our season concluded. You can’t turn rhythm on and off and our approach since the Hull win has been awful.
The performance last night was very poor overall and terrible by the front players.
Archer, Akpom and McGree were terrible. Forss was the only one of the front 4 to be up for it. It was obvious what Jones would do after that first horrendous cross with his first touch.

We miss Howson so much, and perhaps now some people will realise just how very much better Ramsey is to McGree.
The loyalty to Smith is as remarkable as it is ridiculous.

Next season?
I wish it was further away than it is and will focus on cricket and The Ashes in particular.
There is a massive rebuild again (inevitable with so many loans). Akpom will either be sold, or needs much better quality wide colleagues than he had last night and/or a CF who can hold the ball ahead of him.
There is so much work for Scott to get right.
I hope Carrick has learned from the last month as he has not handled it well.

To those who say look where we were when Wilder left. The truth is that is now irrelevant and we have just blown an enormous chance to get promoted. In reality we are entering a transfer window where we start with a squad a long way short.
Poor recruitment last summer was an issue. I am hopeful this summer is very different and there is a better squad this August.

Oh dear, not that old chestnut. They were saying that when Stan Anderson was the manager.

And when we have been on the cusp of promotion the same thing happens. We coast to nice safe championship position.

It's conspiratorial nonsense from you.

Not least because being in the Championship is costing Gibson money.
Being in the Premier League would not.

Boro top scores in the league.
Coventry had never won at the Riverside.
Over two legs could not find the net. Coventry win at the riverside for the first time.

This season was our chance - we’ll never get a better opportunity via the playoffs again, everything was in our favour with the teams in the playoffs and having the second leg at home and we blew it.

No disrespect to Coventry or Luton but none of them are established Championship teams so to have the likes of them as a route to the PL and not go through with it is hard to take.

Usually the playoffs has a team like WBA or Norwich or Watford etc. - yoyo clubs who are a well established championship side or who has had recent experience in the PL yet this season there wasn’t any, this was our chance and it may be something we may not get again for a long time

The trouble is the bar is higher for us as we only achieve promotion via automatics no point aiming for the playoffs as we always bottle it in them. We need top 2 that's the expectation but same said last summer when Wilder finished 7th. Hope Carrick and Scott build a more capable side so we start the season strongly and we aren't getting a new manager in October

Football is that transient that theres so many variables already mentioned to contend with. We've missed an great opportunity to get out of this division.
The most telling one is the amount of clubs in the league that will have parachute payments and we don't.

We’ve blown it. This is the weakest the league has ever been and we couldn’t beat Coventry City over two legs. We couldn’t even score a goal.

We’re not going to have the league’s top scorer and top assister next season. Half the team is loan players and you’ve got established Premier League clubs coming down who’ll be armed with parachute payments.

We simply don’t have the finances to compete, I’ll be amazed if next season is anything like this one.
We didn’t have the league’s top scorer or top assister last time we went up either, far from it.
