Already excited for next season

I think we now have to trust the process and let the recruitment team do it's job under the new model we have. Lets be honest recruitment this season has been excellent in the main so if we can do the same again then we have reason for optimism.

Suggesting that teams have worked us out or that we need a Plan B are very wide of the mark. As mentioned elsewhere we need to bring players in who will make us better at doing what Carrick wants them to do. Look at Many City, I don't see them having a Plan B.. teams know what they are going to do and set up to combat it but they do what they do and do it fantastically well. I'm not suggesting we are anything marginally close to City but it's all relative. If we can be the best team in the Championship at playing that kind of football then we will win far more games than we don't.

Lets all turn those frowns upside down and look forward to a full season under one of the brightest young English managers around.

We’ve blown it. This is the weakest the league has ever been and we couldn’t beat Coventry City over two legs. We couldn’t even score a goal.

We’re not going to have the league’s top scorer and top assister next season. Half the team is loan players and you’ve got established Premier League clubs coming down who’ll be armed with parachute payments.

We simply don’t have the finances to compete, I’ll be amazed if next season is anything like this one.
Everyone expected Watford to be flying high this season and they've been anything but. The league is a tough one, but next season won't be any different to every other. Some teams who didnt do so well this season could improve and be a bigger threat than those coming down, such as WBA or Stoke.

One thing I am certain of is that Carrick and co will know where we need to strengthen and if the last couple of transfer windows are anything to go by then we will be improving our squad again. With a full pre-season I fully expect us to have a good season.

I'm gutted about last night, but also over it. It is what it is as they say. It was a golden opportunity, the best we'll have in a long time no doubt, but time to move on and start thinking about the the future. There's plenty to be optimisic about.

Leicester maybe but Saints and Leeds don’t concern me. Vulnerable and could do a Norwich this season we will have as good a chance as any but we need to recruit wisely in the Summer.
I think Leicester could end up with a shell of a squad.

They have some 'big name' players who will be long gone (Maddison, Barnes, Thielamens, Ndidi to name a few) and i don't think they will have the resources to bring in potentially 10/11 players ready to blitz the Champ.

I'm very calm and meh about our situation.

The playoffs were just two games too far imo. Injuries to key players took their toll and we were a bit lethargic.......but the better footballing team over the two legs.

Slight concern once again a team has out thought us tactically and we couldn't adjust. Frustrating but Carrick will have to learn.

Moving into the summer I am 100% convinced we have a definite plan for definite types of players and these players will be brought in. Carrick will have "better" contacts than Wilder so hopefully will be able to pull a few strings. Diallo from Man U would be a good start.......😁

Personally, the excitement is still there. Last season has gone, done, 4th placed finish, great 2/3 of the season. A platform to build on.

We have a great young manager, an identity, and play a great style of football. The future is bright 😎

Just need Errea to stop p*ssing about........

The most important thing is Carrick is staying. We may lose a few of our big players but I have faith in the recruitment team to get us in a strong position to compete for the start of next season. They've already been preparing for both scenarios, Championship and PL so I'm sure we've got a few quality players lined up even though we've not managed promotion. Carrick is a winner and you could see in his interview last night how much that hurt. He will be determined to go one better next season. You've also got to remember that coming to play for Carrick is massively appealing for players. Similar to Robson in the 90's. We've managed to attract Archer and Ramsey this season. I can't see any reason why we won't bring in more quality next season.

In terms of recruitment do we think we might try to use Carricks contacts at Man Utd and bring Diallo in on loan?
No chance. He will be playing top level next season. If it's not at United it will be somewhere else.

He's still a young lad, probably a bit of an inbetweener at present - excellent Championship player, not quite PL ready.

Harry Kane had 3-4 loans before Spurs thought he was ready so I would think it would be highly unlikely he will be in Man Utds squad......but at the same time he's too young to just sack off.

Love him here, said this last night. And imagine the mackem meltdown......😂😂😂

Too early to be excited - im still processing last night.

We have a another big rebuilding job to do in the summer with lots of players going - Archer will probably want a proper go at Villa or be sold to a club with more money than us, Ramsey similar, Giles we might get, Mowatt needs to be replaced, as does Steffen and Muniz.

then we need to upgrade our defence - Clark doesnt look like hes coming back and the Paddy/Lenihan partnership hasnt really worked most of the season.

All for another day but a lot of work to do. Im confident we have the right backroom team in place with Scott and his people but its going to be tough

I hope you're right. Carrick knows him well too.

Hopefully it is just the way I am feeling right now but I think next season is going to be a massive disappointment.
For a while this season we played the best football seen here for a long long time and still fell short. I can't see it getting better.
Probably 46 games while we try and hang on to the coat tails of the top 6 or 7.
I felt more positive after Wilder's rant at the end of last season.
Luton or Coventry are going up at our expense. It feels like relegation.

We were relegation fodder a few months ago with pretty much the same team as we have now. It just shows what a few loan signings and a decent manager can do… it got us up to 4th and we had a chance, albeit a slim one, to get 2nd.

If Carrick stays and can convince Akpom and a couple of others to stay, plus another couple of signings / loanees there is nothing to stop us getting automatic / play offs next season.

The sides coming down will have their own problems - release clauses, massive overheads, changes in manager etc - it’s not a given that they will go straight back up at all.

Remember where we were. Back when Carrick took over if you had been offered losing in the play off semis as the outcome of the season you would have snapped their hands off. We were looking like we were heading to League One.

Tbh I’m really not. Leicester Saints coming down, maybe Leeds or Everton. It seems like there’s only one way out of this league and it’s top 2. We don’t have the resources to compete.
We've got more resources than both Coventry and Luton, one of them is going up.

We've just had an exciting season, why can't we have another one next time. The football is good to watch and was before Archer and Ramsey arrived.

We need replacements for the loan players but we have some very good players within our squad, if Giles can be tempted back (and why not?) we'll need to bring in a couple of attacking players and a keeper. That's assuming we can keep hold of our better players of course.

Certainly going to be tough but agree it’s very exciting to see what we do in regards to who we sign and who goes and for Carrick to get a full pre season and his first full season. I’m really excited already to be honest and not maybe as down today as I thought I was going to be UTB

I'm in a bit of a limbo in that it absolutely hurts and stings, but I also know it's not the end of the world and we will bring in players who will replace the departing loanees, it's been shown before that teams who miss out on play-offs can go on to get automatics the next season (Boro 2016, Brighton 2017, Sheff United 2023 in recent memory).

We had this feeling of loss when players like Vossen, Bamford, Tomlin, Dean Whitehead, all left in 2015. Look what happened in that summer for some hope.

It's also not all about having parachute payments either, relegated teams often come down and stay down, not every team runs away with it like Burnley did this year. Watford, Norwich, WBA, Huddersfield, Cardiff, Aston Villa, Stoke, Sunderland, and obviously Boro, are just a few teams who came down and didn't go straight back up. Look further and there's Blackburn, Bolton, Portsmouth, QPR, Swansea, Blackpool, Reading. It's not a sure thing that they will go straight back up.

We have a manager who has done so much in such a short space of time with us, he hasn't even had his first pre-season as a manager yet, not to mention only one transfer window, he's also been working with a group of players that has been put together by two completely different style of managers in Wilder and Warnock. Imagine what he could achieve in a full season.

It's easy to be a pessimist in a time like this, but for me there are plenty of positives to take into the next couple of months.

Stick your dummy back in man. You have absolute zero clue on how next season will pan out. It is alright saying this is the weakest it has ever been now.

We will have a new one then, football is about evolution, there is always a new player that comes out the woodwork, if players leave if loans dont return we create a new top scorer a new top assists etc.

The championship is relentless and as many posters have said every season teams say the same things and every season something different happens, we can compete and its about making smart decisions, clever in recruitment and getting deals done as early as possible.

We will come back stronger I am sure and we will maybe even surprise a few yet again.

It's funny but the one player I would like to see us get is Steffen. While I have no doubt that we could pick up a replacement that is of similar, or even slightly better, goalkeeping ability, getting one that is as comfortable as he is playing out from the back could be difficult. This is how Carrick wants to play, and Steffen knows the current back four.

Of the others, Giles is great going forward but suspect at the back, but I'd still take him for the right price.

Mowatt is Howson lite, ok, but we need to do better, and Muniz has been a waste of space.

It is unlikely we'll see Ramsey or Archer again, they have been in the shop window and other clubs will have liked what they have seen. But, it was our shop window and clubs in the Prem' will have been impressed with what they have seen regarding the type of football we try to play. They will have choices about where they send their best young talent, Luton or Boro.

It would be nice if they came knocking on our door offering their best youngsters. Remember, Villa chose us over Norwich.

I'm hoping we will benefit from Ramsey's misfortunes this season, 2 pretty big injuries has seriously limited his appearances, so I think Villa will be looking to get him back out on loan, for a solid season of appearances. I would imagine we will be top of the list, as worked out for both parties for him here by the looks.

Where we were when Carrick took over feels irrelevant now. We had games against Coventry and Luton to get promoted. That is what hurts.

If offered at the time, I probably would have snapped your hand off for a top half finish but why would I accept losing in the play-offs? If I knew we would get that far I'd want to win them. Especially if I knew who else was in them.
