American reworkings of British TV

Only Fools And Horses.... Or maybe it should be Only Jerks And Mustangs?
Anyway it was called The Kings Of Van Nuys and it's er,..... Different.

Probably the most infamous modern example would be the god awful The Inbetweeners remake.

(I'm not even going to post a YouTube clip.)

Other notable USA remake failures include Red Dwarf, The I.T Crowd (yes, and Richard Ayoade reprised his role as Moss), Taskmaster, and Men Behaving Badly.

The Office, in its own American cultural way, worked. Possibly down to Steve Carrell 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Some of the ones listed above - 😖😖😖

The pilot episode, which I don't think they made anymore, popped up on my YouTube and I watched it. I know Christopher Lloyd was in it but all the gags seemed to be around Back to the Future - I couldn't believe how bad it was.

or the other way round who remembers the rubbish British remake of Married with Children with Russ Abbott, Married for Life i recall

I finished Ghosts last week and iPlayer started playing the US version. I lasted 5 minutes and turned off.
Keep going.. we are half way through series 2 of the US version. It is very very good. Don't try to compare it to the UK version. Some of the characters are brilliant!

I might do that. I think I was probably getting to grips with the fact that Ghosts was over and I'd loved every minute of it and wasn't ready for the US version

We tried and failed miserably to remake That 70s Show with Rosie Marcel as Donna.

A full series was filmed but only about three episodes actually aired

We thought exactly the same, gave it a week and went back to it. Watching several a night at the moment

Series 1 of the American Office wasn't very good.
They tried to copy the original almost scene for scene and it didn't work.
From Series 2 onwards they did their own thing and it was great.
