Andy McDonald suspended over rally comments

If it was a Cons member we would have had a ton by now.
I'm not sure what point you're trying to make here. Are you one of those people who thinks that everyone on this board supports Starmer's Labour Party? I've made my position on Starmer very clear on here many times. l jumped before I was pushed as soon as the membership were stupid enough to elect him leader.

There are certainly a few and I know you ain't one of them.

I like McDonald but it's a stupid thing to say. Labour obviously has to gan canny because of previous (recent) association with anti-semitism, but you can disagree with the full-throated pro-Israel stance without using incendiary language. What Labour politicians - or any UK politicians - say has zero effect in any case.

It's making Labour the story - which anyone with an instinctive beef against the party (including, naturally, the Press) is always ecstatic to do. Like I say, stupid.

Why is a Middlesbrough MP speaking at a pro Palestinian rally?

There are plenty of other world ranked politicians involved in the complete mess which is Israel and the Gaza Strip including our very own Rishi Sunak.

Hasn‘t he got better things to do on behalf of the impoverished areas of Teesside?

If he has embarrassed (deliberately or otherwise) the current Labour leadership then what does he expect?

MP'S should be expected to put their beliefs on the table and have the debate. This is what used to happen. Do you think we should let Rishi Sunak and his party dominate this debate with no pushback?

Words alone are not racist or antiSemitic, it is the meaning behind them that becomes problematic and we should not be cowed by a bunch of extremists into believing otherwise.

Andy McDonald used the phrase river to the sea in a way that couldn't be less controversial to anyone who wants to see peace in the Middle East. This combination of words has been politicised but if you think McDonald's use was incendiary then contrast that with the same words from the deputy Israeli Foreign Minister.

So the Starmer supporters are against people speaking up for Palestine while it's bombed?

And you're left wing, how?

It has to brought into open on here, I hope like the banned Tory MP was quoted, that a ceasefire happens and the killing stops. I admire thatTory mind. Your post makes sense, surely after 13 years of being badley managed lazy people, voted in by xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx voters who are now down at heel and full of hell , Starmer or or not its overdue change.

If you've got time listen to these two representatives of the Jewish community talking about anti semitism. They wouldn't last 2 minutes in the Labour Party as it stands at the moment.

Labour should be challenging the actions of Hamas and Netanyahu, not walking on eggshells trying not to upset the editor of the Daily Telegraph and Mail.

The debate, if we need one to talk about both Israeli and Palestinian war crimes and terrorism, should take place in the House of Commons. Standing up and spouting at a pro Palestinian rally is not debating.

He is entitled to voice his opinion but at the same time if he is giving the right wing media excuses to slag off Labour over anti Semitism again then it doesn’t take much reasoning to see why Starmer might have a problem with him does it?

Anyway, he’s done very well for himself, he’s made a few headlines today, I’ve not heard him say much in favour of the people of Middlesbrough lately.

Two separate issues and you know it.

The Labour leadership cannot win, the last leader accused of anti Semitism and the latest one accused of being anti Palestinian.

If the right wing media in this country would not indulge in wedge politics then I would not care what the likes of McDonald said at a pro Palestinian rally.

But they do, and it makes Labour look divided on policy, so McDonald needs to be more careful what he says.

And on the subject of Palestine being bombed I think it’s absolutely appalling but McDonald‘s contribution will do nothing whilst the likes of Biden is pulling the strings.

It is laying out your beliefs before the people, which is honest and furthers the debate, as opposed to hiding your beliefs through fear.
Very few people see what happens in HoC debates but people want to know what their politicians are made of.
Labour should have the antiSemitism argument, not be cowed into silence and bullied into changing their stance.

Labour councillors up and down the country are leaving the party or being signatories to letters calling for Starmer to back a ceasefire. He has really handled this badly and is out of kilter with most of his party.
