Angry Premier League clubs demand emergency meeting on Newcastle deal [Gruniad]

The real story here, which is touched upon on the OP, is that the EPL only blocked to deal because BeIN EPL football was being illegal broadcast from Saudi Arabia. It was a t*t-for-tat after the Saudis fell-out with Qatar, where BeIN is based.

In other words, the EPL couldn't give a toss about the human rights atrocities in SA, as long as the EPL TV rights weren't compromised.

It's shameful and speaks directly to the only thing the EPL cares about - profits.

Drawing attention to the hypocrisy is right, but you singled him out as an example of the hypocrosy in the PL. Personally he is one of those that has used his profile for greater good and should be applauded.
I wasn't personally having a go at him, he's done well bringing up the issue.
Two clubs in Manchester though throw millions upon millions at individuals kicking a ball yet in their city people go Hungary, £1 million would buy around 500,000 pack lunches for kids in the school holidays that's my point.
May be Man city could of paid £98 million for Grelish and then provided a million pack lunches with the other 2 million, JUST A THOUGHT

I think Marcus Rashford was singled out because he is high profile and I think for some to take the sanctimonious attitude and suggest it was racially motivated is bang out of order.
There's 500 players contracted to PL clubs.
Why single out Marcus Rashford?
In fact, why single out any player?
The thread is about 19 PL clubs making representations to the PL about ownership protocols yet Borgelite was straight in there with a pop at Rashford for some reason only he knows.

i dont see how the premier league can support the takeover given their charter for inclusion and support for LGBTQ+ matters via rainbow laces, this bid comes from a consortium financed coming from the Saudi state, which violently oppresses these groups.

I'm not having a pop at Rashford, I stating how football has been ruined by money and billionaire owners. I mentioned Rashford and and the Manchester clubs in relation to the ridiculous money wasted in football and how people are going hungary as Rashford rightly points out.
Football today = Greed beyond belief.

As you keep saying but I think you're opening post tells me everything I need to know.

Dont like it for human right reasons but newcastles takeover is a rebalancing of power and diddums the north west and southern clubs (well, yank, russian, chinese owners) dont like it.

We are so sad to have become part of such a wicked foreign regime.
For the sake of wanting to win the premier league we have sacrificed all dignity.
The deal shows no respect for basic human rights.
We are so sorry to have ruined our reputation in this way.
If we do win anything it will be a very hollow victory given the shame we feel.
How could we have become associated with such evil?
Is what I imagine the people of Saudi Arabia will be saying when they find out they have just bought Newcastle United.

Can’t help but feel there wouldn’t be any fuss if it was for a London club or North West club. Much as I think the takeover stinks and it’s disgraceful that it’s been allowed, you can’t set a precedent with other clubs then chuck your toys out of the pram when it happens to a club from the North East.
Reminds me a little of the days when we were splashing the cash on Juninho and Ravanelli and generating jealousy and anger as ‘cheeky northern upstarts’.
I don't recall Gibbo dismembering Anthony Vickers with a bone-saw.

I think the Saudi takeover is most extreme case of dodgy ownership. But there are some dodgy owners and there has been some dodgy owners. Wasn't there some arms dealers at Postsmouth. No ones really explained where Abramovich billions came from and so quickly. I have always thought he bought Chelsea to raise his public profile in the West and thus protect himself to some degree from Central Russian authorities.

It's a bit rich for the other clubs and I suspect there wouldn't be an outrage had the Saudis bought Arsenal. Is buying Newcastle really any different to Saudi Arabia owning millions in British property and buying billions in British weapons? Probably not.

Being paid £1m loans from his company to avoid paying tax. As I said, it’s only what many other players are doing.

His salary from Man Utd is split into image rights and sponsorship and paid into an offshore account to avoid U.K. tax.

This thread shouldn’t be about him though.
If he introduced 1 million to the company he’s allowed to take it back as loan.

Reuben was a member of the QPR board up until Covid hit. He left them when presumably they were not a fit for his aspirations. He supports QPR and joined Newcastle recently presumably becaise of his useful connections to government not of course unhindered by his £200k donation to the Tories and his chairmanship of elect Johnson to London mayor in 2012.
