Any news on Yusuf yet

Travelling to every match from London is far from ordinary to be fair.

A fair few of us have done that for a number of years (mine being during the European seasons, but some people have done it for far longer than me).

Not saying he didn't deserve it, but I think it was for more than simply going to the games and possibly because of his backstory of having no connection to the area and also his enthusiasm and visibility at games.

Going back even further, the Shropshire mob used to go up to Manchester and then train it across from there on the Trans Pennine. That was when Robbo was manager.

It's pretty much the same time spent on the train and they then had the drive or train up/down to Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Welshpool.

Yes, you are going to be closer to the mark - Yusuf is such a popular unofficial ambassador for the club with his enthusiasm, leading of chants and the way he engages with so many supporters from Boro but also his friendship and links with social media from other clubs also. A lovely lad and a top fan for Boro.

Fair play to the WBA lad, can’t argue with that but Yusuf has to be our supporter of the year 😉

Depends how you define it really.

For example there's plenty of people in fan groups (12th man as an example) who've done a lot for the community such as foodbank collections etc, whilst also supporting the Boro home and away.

I know some of then and they didn't go to every home game and probably a minority of away games.

Doing it in the 1996/7 season when we had bought World class players was a bit different to mid table Championship days too.

I think I have seen Yusuf at every away game I have been to since 2019, he is super enthusiatic, way ahead of just keen and dedicated. He has also overcome a bit of a cultural divide and adapted, as some Boro supporters have with him. I find it quite heart warming.

I don't know the criteria for the award if it includes raising money for charity OK to the Baggies fan, but if it just about following and supporting your team Yusuf really does take some beating.

It’s invidious surely to pick any fan and title them “Fan of the Year”. We all know individuals who go to every game and travel long distances but without the profile. So when we do choose one I can’t get too excited as to whether they deserve it or not.

Well done Yusuf by the way and all those who travelled extensively supporting the team this season . You are all fantastic supporters.
