Wishing the new Duke of Edinburgh a very Happy Birthday today! The King has conferred the Dukedom of Edinburgh upon his brother, Prince Edward, on his 59th birthday.

I'll sleep better tonight knowing the dukedom is in safe hands. FERFOOOOOKS SAKE 🤣

I’m no royalist, quite the opposite, but I met this guy through my charity work (teaching basic numeracy and literacy to ‘difficult’ teenagers). He came across as interested and engaged, taking time to talk to the kids and staying well over his allotted time. Not the toughest job in the world, I know, but a little credit where it’s been earned.

I have also met him through the DofE Awards scheme and again found him genuinely interested in what people had to say and took time to find out how each student had completed their Residential and if anyone had found employment through participating in the DofE.

Wonder if he'll get an above inflation pay rise? Or maybe an odd Estate thrown in with his title?
Poor Andie will be fuming I bet...

Fuming as in not being the centre of attention, you know he loves the limelight...
I have nothing personal about Edward Duke of Edinburgh per say....
I'd get rid of the whole pathetic lot of em...

Had to look up who he was. Ian's others in pub were amazed to fine out he is Chucks brother. Has he been locked in the Buckingham Palace cellar all these years.

Ahhh. I'm showing my age see....being an old Merchant Navy guy the union jack occupied one quarter of the red ensign and old habits die hard as they say...😉

I genuinely never understand praise like this. It's not exactly going above and beyond what should be expected is it.

I get that some would (in my view bizarrely) argue he could turn up, show no internet and leave as quickly as he could, but I mean if we take your and Ruthsayer's praise as a great example of how to act when representing the state's leading family, it's not exactly setting a high bar.

No Honour In Any Of These Baubles

News Reporter
Boris Johnson putting forward his dad for a knighthood, after sending his brother to the Lords, is the surest sign yet that he is now just openly trolling us.

Equally as funny though are the cries of anguish about him demeaning the honours system. That’s like saying the Mafia demeans contract killing.

Our honours system is by definition corrupt and has been since it was introduced. If Johnson needs a defence for handing out baubles to his family simply because he can, then he only needs to point to the mafia at the very top of our honours system.

King Charles has just given his brother Edward the Dukedom of Edinburgh, and at his coronation he’ll be dressed like a highly-decorated war veteran, sporting these medals (given to him by his mum) – the Garter star, Silver Jubilee Medal, Gold Jubilee Medal, Diamond Jubilee Medal, the Order of New Zealand Order and the Canadian Forces Medal.

The same Prince who spent about 10 minutes in the Marines before running home to his mum.

Johnson is only copying the best.
