Anybody else a little disengaged yesterday?

Small crowd - lots of empty seats usually filled by season ticket regulars in East upper. Really poor atmosphere- apart from RF banging their drum and singing their own repertoire of songs nobody knew it was pretty much silent. Could hear the players talking to each other on the pitch . Concourse fairly quiet at half time as well. Certainly celebrated when we scored but I think everyone realised we were our normal recent self till the red card and but for that we would have got a decent 3-0 drubbing last night. I think everyone is just confused about what is happening and how bad the squad is minus 2 or 3 key players. Sort of a can’t wait for the season to end feel about last night. Win Saturday and Birmingham next week and things could turn around atmosphere wise. I think it is a pity early bird renewal wasn’t set at 7th April straight after a couple of nice home wins against Sheff Wed and Swansea but that would have meant someone at the club had the ability to read the room about how fans are feeling. Definitely a strange one last night but massive 3 points and nice to not wake up in a bad mood the day after a Boro game

Up until Clarke and VdB let that their bizarre goal happen, we had been abysmal.
I was at Stoke on saturday - and following the Plymouth beating, I thought we were very much in a relegation situation.
So winning last night was hugely important.

I am delighted we got the win, absolutely delighted.
I hope we squeeze out the couple more we still need.

But the atmosphere was so subdued last night, even after our goals.
It felt like nobody really wanted to be there, or relates to these players.
There is a real disconnect.
Compare it to the 5-1 thumping of Norwich less than a year ago. The club feels like a very poor relation to then. It is remarkable.

I went upstairs after my wife's film had finished. She said, Oh we won! good news. I was erm yeah not good viewing through and lucky.

Yeah I wasn’t particularly bothered, it was nice to get the win but before they went down to 10 men we looked dreadful again.

I think in reality, most of us are aware that our season’s over. We’re not really in danger, we’re not likely to get a playoff spot. So it’s essentially just seeing out the season now.

I think that apathy is the reason for the low attendance. It definitely wasn’t 23k, I’d have been surprised if it was 18/19.

Like most, spent the game sucking teeth and shaking head. It was just a bizarre game, with the obvious compare/contrast with last season's fixture - arguably the zenith of that gorgeous brand of football we played then.

But things took a turn for the truly disappointing tuning into BBC Tees in the car afterwards. Not one use of the phrase 'papering over the cracks'. Just sort yourself out Maddo.

everyone around me was bored. it’s been a long time since i sensed such apathy at the riverside. ‘celebrating’ a win but what is the win for? i don’t think the state of the game was particularly engaging mind - boro still not great even with the man advantage, and norwich just… gave up

had a chuckle after each one .... for the last 10 mins I was moving vinyl records around .... only listening to Drury... strange really just forgot it was a live game and mentally switched off

I am in such a better mood today - and everyone seemed to be smiling after the game. No one is avoiding talking about the football today.
Really pleased to get three points and score three goals. Such a relief to finally win at home in the league this year.

Even when the goals went in, you can see from TV the crowds reaction was ridiculously subdued - usually see limbs, jumping about.....but it was like a bored, apologetic clap. Being polite almost.

Apathy has certainly set in. ☹️

Often when a club goes down to 10 men, especially when they are in front, they defend better and stand a chance of holding on.
So ,apart from the 3 points, the best of last night was that Boro managed to take Norwich apart when they were given advantage.

I was desperate for us to win to stop our slide but the overriding emotion to the goals was "about 'effing time" given that we'd barely created a chance in the last 3 games. Also tempered by the fact we'd been utterly woeful until they were reduced to 10 men and that the sending off seemed undeserved. The game was dead after the 3rd went in and both teams played the last half hour as if to say as much. Overall relief. Confidence and momentum (in either direction) is massive in football so hopefully this is the first sign of us turning the ship back around.

Not in the slightest, it reminded me of Stan Andersons time and Big Jacks, when the game through incident swung the other way. It happened for us last night, sometimes it hasnt.

So....as i mentioned on roofies match day thread....
The win was met with indifference in bairdys House...which is a sign of troubled times here at baird towers....
However...
I must continue to explore the reason why the boro players did not celebrate with forss after he scored.
Not 1....
No one congratulated or went near him
That is a team with disharmony raging in the background...
Even when he jogged back to the middle you could.see him looking round at everyone trying ro gee them up....got nothing
Something is wrong...and I can't work it out.
Anyone care to offer an explanation?

Didn't notice that tbh. Concerning if Forss is on some unpopular list with the other players, given he's our best finisher.

Didn't notice that as am in the north east corner, but I agree something isn't right, and hasn't been for weeks. Can only assume its linked to Rogers and Crooks leaving.

I’m hoping it’s just because they wanted to get going straight after the equaliser and were aware the first 30 minutes were not good enough.

Also, they all celebrated together after Lath’s goal, including Forrs.

Hmm...I hear what you're saying Mr B.Trumpet but I'm not convinced....

I must admit that until they went doen to 10 men I was just going through the motions and thinking about how far we have fallen behind. When they lost that player they just stopped the press and let us dictate the game for the rest of the match. Poor tactics from them I thought. But as said above its often difficult getting at 10 men. I think there was such relief when Fors scored it was not really a time to celebrate, just get back and kick off while we had the momentum. Celebration comes for the second and third.
I was very pleased with our attitude last night.
