Applause silencing the booing of taking the knee

Respect to him. Not easy going against the grain, particularly with a new team. Although I don't doubt his team mates are supportive. Good to see a footballer willing to think for himself and have the courage of his convictions.

(no disrespect to the the other Boro players either who have taken a reasoned stance not to do it, even if I personally think they've got it wrong).

The message hasn’t been delivered clear enough as it’s still rife in our society
How rife is it in your circle ?
It’s obviously there but I can’t recall the last rime I’ve heard racism in public although the protests make me think about it most days

There was also a lot of applause during the anti-racism announcement just before the teams came out. It was good to hear.

I for one am disappointed that our team has chosen not to take the knee, especially in the context of what happened during the summer. The ignorance is still an ugly blemish on society given a voice by the Neanderthals booing. Keep kneeling.

This is part of the problem I guess. People think that racism arrives explicitly and obviously, with a skinhead and swastika. It doesn’t. It’s subtle, systemic and insidious.
Yeah, The people wanting to attack BLM and using statements like "I'm not a racist but.." are the ones we need to worry about now.

Anyone that’s a a victim of racism is pointing a finger at the system and that it needs to change . Kneeling wont change a thing with in a system but only give some people an illusion that something is happening imo .

it highlights there is a problem. some people on here are still oblivious to it. so it needs highlighting.

I disagree. It continues to make a difference. The idiot racists that boo it ar ebeing actively drowned out by decency. It has brought huge attention to the issue. It has led to a positive backlash. To argue it hasn't made a difference is plainly wrong.

Ironically it's the booing (and response to it) that demonstrates it's still having an impact for me.

If it had just been met with nothing but polite applause then it might have been stopped by now and more clubs might have taken our approach for the same reasons.

Booing also conveniently provides a constant reminder that more action is needed (not that anyone should be in any doubt).

I'd love someone to ask Warnock about it again given the events over the summer and the fact a few of our players (particularly Britt) have now moved on. We've got a lot of new faces and at least one of the group clearly doesn't agree with our stance. Have the players discussed it again and reached the same decision? Or are they just carrying on not doing it because that's what they did last year?

I wonder if it has even been discussed recently and that's why Ikpeazu took the knee at Fulham - because it's what most teams do. I'm fairly sure that there was a game back in January or February where one of the new players (Fisher perhaps?) took the knee and I thought at the time that he possibly hadn't been sent the memo. But I agree that, with Assombalonga gone, and with fans back and some booing, the position should be reviewed.

I thought they'd agreed as a squad, in which case it sounds like it needs reviewing as the whole squad clearly isn't for not taking the knee.

It's hilarious isn't it, all these knuckle draggers who lack an education to any degree are all suddenly experts on Marxism!

I'm not really laughing, but it is ridiculous.

I guess the "Marxist" accusation is imported from the USA.

It's reminiscent of the "mixing races is communism" placards and the "Martin Luther King at communist school" poster.

The far right has always tried to discredit racial equality as far-left ideology.

I actually had a conversation with a pleasant young man recently and asked him to explain Marxism to me. He told me to f*** off which told me everything.

Actually I didn't f**** off. I waited for a reasoned, articulate response and when he threatened to 'kick my f****** head in, I waited for that too, but it didn't happen.
