Appleby horse fair and travellers

I've had good and bad experiences with them. No different to any other 'group'. As others have said you only ever read about the bad stuff in the press so that makes some people think that they're all like that. They're not. It's like thinking that all Muslims are terrorists because a few brainwashed idiots blow themselves up every now and again. There are good and bad people in every community. Some of the bum faced lads are pretty bad people but I'm one of the good guys.

Absolute bull.
Everywhere these 'travellers' turn up, either for a short stay or longer they trash the place. Open your bl88dy eyes man, as a 'group' they have absolutely no respect for a society that allows them a free ride. When confronted about illegal accupancy or the mess, they become violent and abusive.

So that's all travellers?
What would you suggest... genocide?
Your rant right there amounts to generic racism IMO.
My brother married a Welch and when you get their trust they're fine people on the whole.
Like any part of society bad uns will give them all a stain.
And uneducated bigots like you will jump all over it

Hitched back from a game against Fulham one year and was picked up by 2 travellers. Asked if we smoked and my mate said yes. Rolled him the biggest joint I've ever seen which he turned down when he realised what it was.
They were going from Manchester to South of Leeds but took us right up not far from Wetherby before they turned back. Very nice of them.

Travellers are a ethnic group. Swap 'Travellers' with 'Blacks' or 'Jews' and this thread would have been stopped some time ago.

Personally speaking having lived in York for some time very close to the travelling community there 99% of them were great, law abiding people. Much like where I live now in North Yorkshire amongst non travellers.

Those photos from Appleby are no different from the aftermath of festivals where predominantly non-travellers attend.

Romany Gypsies are an ethnic group, Irish travellers are ethnically Irish, though they get do get categorised as a minority because of prejudices.

My Daughter's boyfriend, (S) works for a company that builds and fits the backs to commercial vehicles. He deals with a lot of travellers and gets on well with them. One day he took a call from this bloke complaining that the back of his truck was all distorted, and demanding a hefty refund.
S asks the guy what he'd been using his truck for and the man says 'tarmacing.'
S says he's sorry but the type of truck you bought is no good for tarmacing - too heavy and too much heat etc. He explains that if he'd ordered a tarmacing truck they would have used 5mm steel instead of 3mm and it would have been a different design etc.

After a bit of heated toing and froing the guy says 'ok, if you don't get me a refund I'll be down there tomorrow and it'll be me and you, shirts off on the car park.' and ends the call. The girls in the office are worried and persuade S not to meet him so instead he phones one of his regular customers - another traveller - and explains the situation to him.

Traveller. 'What's his name?'
S. tells him the bloke's name.
T. 'never, f***in heard of him, you sure he's a f***in traveller?'
S. 'Definitely mate.'
T. 'What's his number'
S. Gives him the phone number.
T. 'Leave it with me.'

S gets on with his work and later that day his office phone rings. He picks it up and a voice on the other end just says 'he's not coming.'

And he didn't.
