What wasn't the case? That he didn't lie down to head it (obviously, he didn't) or that he didn't kneel down and push the ball to the keeper with his knee? Because he definitely did the latter.

I'm still not giving it though, because according to FIFA Circular 488 which outlawed using a deliberate trick to circumvent the (backpass) law, the referee must "be convinced that this was the player's motive" - and I'm not quite sure that it was.

That is what I meant by saying this wasn't the case, he never deliberately used a trick to circumvent the backpass rule, he reacted in a split second with the ball pretty much under his feet and an attacker right behind him. I think his initial reaction was to shield the ball from being kicked through his legs.

If he had more time and was further away from the keeper to react then it's a trick backpass.
