Aye, today James Nursey from the Mirror said there’s interest in Assombalonga from Turkey.


Middlesbrough may cash in on skipper Britt Assombalonga this month to avoid losing the striker on a free.

DR Congo international Assombalonga,28, is out of contract this summer after joining from Nottingham Forest for £15million in July 2017.

He has since scored 46 goals in 150 games for Boro and several rival Championship teams are keen on him.

But the forward also has more lucrative interest from abroad in Turkey.

He became Boro’s record buy from Forest after 30 Championship goals in 47 starts having joined from Peterborough in 2014.
 
It would be a slightly strange move. I think it's a no brainer for us if we can get any kind of fee. It also saves 6 months of 30k+ a week.

I fully expect a whole cluster of champo clubs wanting him in the summer. He's a more than decent forward on a free.

I would be suprised if he does move on this window. I just don't see how it would benifit him as he's on a good wage and will have the pick of clubs in 6 months time.

I personally would block. I don't think him leaving would be a huge loss in terms of what he adds, you could argue with Fletcher back there would be no difference squad strength wise either, but obviously we still need numbers.

If any fee we get could get a 'Warnock type' to play up top, or a creative pacy winger (hopefully not Bolasie) to increase our goal threat then I'd be 100% in favour.

So would I. I would be delighted. Fletcher is twice the player. The reason I have asked TC as he seems to never have a bad word said about Assombalonga

After that, depends. Howson seems an obvious candidate but might be leaving at the end of the year?

We do lack 'leaders' still, so I have no really strong opinion on an ideal choice, as you say McNair is probably as good as anyone, Fry is longest serving I'd assume? Morsy maybe?

Fair. I just think it will be more beneficial if there is a chance we can do something and get someone more suited in but if not I’m sure he can help us out until season end

Yes either Howson or McNair feels like the right choice. Morsy is a bit new and not done enough yet for the armband imho.
Maybe Fry in a year or two. You never know Neil might surprise us as with the Britt appointment.

No mate you've got me wrong I think he's been poor this season.
I just respond to what's put - and his name comes up all the time. I think he deserves criticism for a poor season but a lot of it is over the top
My views were identical to yours on him earlier in the season. We have both 'gone off' him since , just maybe you a bit more than me
If the same number of posts were made about Fletcher leaving - who is also out of contract and on big bucks too - I'd feel the same and say so
Im happy for Britt to stay, but not bothered if he leaves - the same goes for Fletcher

I just feel about 95 percent of your posts are Assombalonga related. My views on him are he’s not good enough but he is here so will play games and will score the odd goal. That view will remain the same if he stays for the next 6 months. My views on Fletcher have always been the same, he’s our best striker and should get a new Contract in my opinion. Assombalonga not a chance
 
I'd love to get a fee for him and lose his wages.
I'm not fan of Fletcher and wouldn't cry if he left either, but he offers far more than Assombolonga and is just a better player.
I think Watmore, Akpom and Fletcher are adequate, but would still like another striker in for a promotion push.
