Atmosphere Today

Surprisingly quiet, especially considering the attendance and scoreline.

I guess a lot of the people in the stadium will have been part timers, but still very subdued even considering that.

I think it was down to the match itself. We started poorly, then got going quite quickly and before we knew it Wigan seemed dead and buried. But as above, lack of noise from their away fans, most of whom are just there to fill in time until the rugby league season starts in March, didn’t help.

few were "out for the day" nothing wrong in that , if they enjoyed it they come back , good to see it like old days
As you say most were there for the day and nothing wrong with that but too many not really invested as you get with the more traditional hard core.

Would have been different with 2.5k forest or sheff wed fans in. The wigan fans offered nothing to bounce off.

Even the south stand were singing north stand give us a song ... whether that was a pop at the atmosphere or them just trying to gee up an atmosphere who knows

I imagine around 5k who maybe don't normally attend. That's not a pop by any means.

Boro have around 18-22k fans that are deamed as 'hardcore'. So many won't be used to it. The attendance was cracking. Just look at the majority of other champo clubs👌

I've often thought the bigger the crowd, the worse the atmosphere. I thought today was really similar to those away games when we get big followings - a load of people who couldn't really care less about the game/score, they're there to get smashed, or are there purely because their mates have gone. I know quite a few people who went today who have no real interest in football, but were there as part of a day on the p1ss. Obviously nothing wrong and they've put money into Boro, but those type won't contribute to an atmosphere.

Atmosphere was pretty poor I thought. A lot of people out for a day out - as others have said, no criticism just the way it is. Hopefully a few more come back more regularly.

As I was queueing up to go into the ground, a few people in front of me were trying to get in North Stand Turnstiles with West Stand tickets, which probably sums it a up a little.

Overall though, the game was pretty comfortable as well. Ref let a lot of things go. Nothing really happened to rile the crowd up. Always think our best atmospheres are when there ls a poor ref or a catalyst that ignites the crowd.

Lots of happy faces on the walk out, which is the main thing!

A nothing game, no edge. Typical atmosphere. But get it right on the pitch and those size crowds up for the game can be a real asset

For a sell out I noticed loads of empty seats in the East stand, especially toward the north east, must have been 100s. Maybe people bought ages ago and then could not get due to train strikes?
